View Full Version : 15c packhorse bridge

Working plein air with friends yesterday. The 15c packhorse bridge on the edge of town. Sitting under the huge old willow we got really cold in the shade. Finishing touches done with a little acrylic.

Mixed media. On A3 watercolour pad but cropped, so approx 10x11 inches

Let it get a bit warmer and I'd bet it would be luscious to sit in the shade there. Great sketch.

Vivien, this is so breathtaking. I love the textures, cracked stone, dappled foliage and softly rippling water. Great shadows. Even the grass, softened and muted in the left corner, is just right. I feel as if I'm there with sun on my back. Simultaneously a wealth of detail and not one extraneous stroke!

 thank you! It was so good to be out. There were 8 of us altogether I think and nice to occasionally chat between concentrating. Only 2 of us did this view. It's a good place to paint

Love the view and your approach to it. Well done!

ok this is the whole image, uncropped. Some friends say crop and one (an illustrator) made an interesting point that the whole image has more of a narrative happening. Not planning to frame it so it doesn't really matter!

and I played in the etchings app on the ipad

I may do a version with the tight crop of the first 'etching'

The crops are interesting. But, I like the whole scene. Just my opinion.

I'm coming round to the not cropping :)

I like the whole image best!

I love your sketches, and prefer the uncropped image. Super work!

thank you both :) i think I've come around to keeping the whole image on this one but doing a second cropped version from it It always helps to hear opinions :)
