Well not really, just the start, I'll finish it tomorrow.
A Rescue tug and tanker on fire, probably an escort lying off.

Thought it was Buccaneers, of course there would be Vixens at Yeovil, quite close by. Didn't they try Hunters first?.
Think I was in the 'Far Flung' at the time.

As I said I think I was out East fighting for Queen and country, funnily enough it was usually The Aussies and the Yanks we were fighting, nearly always ended up the best of oppos and P****d out of our skulls, still send a couple of Christmas cards when I mind.

Got a question...do you trace your ships from photos or freehand?

Mostly free hand, some times if it was something like a battleship with a lot of decks I might trace in the general layout of decks. Most, including this one are either copied freehand from photos or if from a diferent view point, several photos are used for reference. I have nothing against tracing, but find it difficult getting the right pose, resizing, and finding a clear photo, then tying it all in with the rest of the picture. This is free hand, can't remember the last traced one

Thanks Charles, I'm in the middle of something new for me, a painting of some thing that never happened, but might have!. All will be clear tomorrow.
Jim
All free hand.

Lovely work as ever. Sketching is such an important skill for any artist.

I agree I think drawing is the foundation for what we do.

If you get it wrong at the start unless you can correct halfway through the painting then it is always going to be wrong.

Agree, life's a female dog, however paper is cheap, at least the stuff I use is.
If I didn't notice it being wrong at the drawing stage I don't think I would see it in the finish work.

With your mastery of heavy seas...ever paint the Edmund Fitzgerald?

No not had the urge, too much of nothing happening between the bridge at the front and the funnel at the back, a big storm and was it not at night as well?.
My first Ship, EDENWOOD used to work the Lakes in the summer, then return to the U K for the winter I did two trips to Casablanca for Phosphates in her, but never got to Canada.

Well, according to the Gordon Lightfoot song...the ship was in rough waters all day and went down around 7pm....anyhow........:-)
