Hi All,
I decided to challenge myself with this figure. The forshortening of his right arm and the guitar, it all seemed like it was a challenge but doable.
This was done with Pastels in Art Rage (digital) in about an hour. I just realized that I got a new Wacom Tablet, - wore out the pen on the last one, and I've been so busy that I really haven't used it much.
I exported a few progress shots for those who like to follow the progress.

The initial sketch only took a few minutes:

Sorry folks, having trouble with attachments this morning!

Then I blocked in colors. I was trying to pay attention to the values, so I would have a nice sense of shadows and light

Of course, I should have taken a good look at my work before this, but when I was working on the face, I discovered that the head was too small and so was the upper body. Luckily, I could just smudge the face and make it bigger.
For the body, I made my canvas a little taller, selected the top part of the body, moved it up and then filled in the middle. Doesn't that make you envious of digital painters??

Here is my finished piece. In addition to the Pastels, I used some palette knife to smudge and smooth out the pastel. About an hour's work, I rather keep things fresh than fuss too much with the details.

I can't believe you wore out your Wacom Tablet! How long did you have it?

Thanks for sharing the progress shots, and the very interesting digi info. That is so far beyond my ken. He sure turned out beautifully- you captured his wistful gaze perfectly.
