View Full Version : tweaks: Kriss Kross

I hope our dear Moderators will let this second demo stay separate from my first thread on the subject. The tweaks I have added are important to the finish.
In this top area of the composition there was a little flatness and more deep values were needed as well as highlights in the leaves. Some branches needed a blacker brown. The bright whites were almost too white and adding a bit of green did not work......so I added the compliment of green (Alizarin crimson)
to a lot of white and the sparkle worked.

In this area of rocks, the rocks seemed a bit boring and too cartoon-like due to outlines. I softened edges and added some fall leaves meandering in different directions to add interest. Also, the little grassy area on the right needed some value changes and varying greens.

Overall, I then added glazes of Van Dyke brown to all my darks which were reading too blue. I remember Schmid saying that brown was important to outdoor shadows and it seemed to work.

Here is the finish and thanks for looking: Derek
