View Full Version : WDE - April 10 2015 - Wendy's Roses

I took the challenge to try something different this week. I really wanted to paint them all ( such great choices) but decided on Wendy's roses. This is a super quickie - 40 mins, on rubbish paper - A4, with water soluble crayons and gouache. I would have liked to do a proper job of this but ran out of time. Hopefully I can get to do the proper one later in the week :)
Thanks for looking. BBL to comment on others.

I like the looseness Ros and those roses are good - a real understanding of their form.:)

This looks great!! I think the quickness made this painting a gem and the so called rubbish paper doesn't show at all

But tho' this isn't a "proper" piece I bet you had tons of fun with very low expectations of your "rubbish" paper :)

It's lovely. It has a nice looseness and energy to it. I also like the way you've gone outside the border in some areas. Lovely! :)

Nice and loose, and lovely colours

I love how you painted the roses -- just a few strokes for each and I KNOW they are roses. I'm envious -- I hope to get there one day!

This is very successful! I love this loose and colorful painting.

When I paint roses I rarely like the result, but I sure like your result! You've inspired me to try them "quickie" style.

Well your 40 minutes was very well spent. This is lovely.
I am envious of your sketchbook style and want to develop my own. Did you use one of the forums here to get you started?

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Christine, I did Liz Steel 's Sketching Now course late last year. It was great and I learnt lots. I think she will be re running the course again soon.

There is so much exciting stuff happening here ! From the 'impressionistic' roses, to the frames outside and echoed inside, to the 'ghost' petal and flower pot shapes beyond the frame. and then the subtle patterning to complement the rose forms ! Delightful.
