Still recovering from surgery (post-op), so thought I would just do a digital manipulation/paint from the reference to start with, All in all about an hour and a half, excluding naps

I knew there was something in the photo when it yelled hello at me.. but didn't expect this

What a great manip. Dominic - such drama!:) - and those textures would make a really good painting!:)

Sorry to hear about the op - hope all is going well with the recovery.

Hope you will be feeling better soon Dominic, there seems to be a few of us that have had surgery within the last month, I'm similar to you taking naps a lot more frequently than I ever have. I love what you have done with this ref - lovely vibrant digi with the sun reflection on the ferry and the water creating beautifully colored ripples on the water.

I really like your treatment of the photo, especially the texture of the water. I also like the technique you've used in the portrait, with the ink lines.

Take a nap, wake up, do a masterpiece...that is the secret to art. Your boat scene is dynamite and a great rendition of Nettie, too.

Nice job with Nettie, but FABULOUS color in the ferryboat. I can just feel the warmth of the late afternoon sun on Elliott Bay in Seattle!

The ferry turned out fantastic !! I'm beginning to suspect artists do some of their best work when they are in a weakened state ! But "get better fast" anyway ! Nettie turned out winsome and cute.
