View Full Version : The Jacaranda's are blooming, acrylic, 22x15

I was asked to post a piece and explain how to mix colors with my color system.

All my paintings for the last 15 years have been on 1/8" hard pressed masonite.
I've been painting acrylics on location for 40 years, up until 7 years ago I always had at least one painting happening. I'm 73 now and living in a studio apartment instead of driving in my van and stopping when I see something to paint. Now I get a phone call, "The one on Kula Highway is happening now."

This link has the work finished daily along with the tips. Jacarandas happen each year in April, I always paint at least one. I designed and printed a Real Color Wheel that would match my paintings shadow colors, it has the three primary colors where I could mix any color I see and paint a full color painting.

I'm sorry, Maui currently has a blackout while they are installing new web equipment. (So I'm told)

Don, when back online, is it possible to post an image using the WC uploader rather than making a link to your work please?
If uploaded, it's here permanently, from a website, it can disappear!:)

Hi Don. I still get an error to the link. Hopefully the Maui will be back on line soon.

HI Chammi, It worked at 12pm last night, I up loaded 3 day's work. It worked until 8am, I know because I got my logs before then and we were offline after 8am. Maui time is 6 hours different than NY. Don, Wet Canvas works. :)

Last night Maui, http://www.realcolorwheel.com/ was offline, it didn't come on at 12am like it did befor, it came online at 9am instead, here is the url, http://www.realcolorwheel.com/Jacaranda1st2015.htm
They are trying to fix this "peak hour" thing when I can't get connected.

I admire you for going out there. I would just take a picture and paint in the comfort of my own home. lol

You would probably get more views if you uploaded here directly.

You said, "Every painting is a new adventure." I say, Where is the adventure in that?, painting from a photo. I learned how to make shades of colors by using the opposite colors painting from nature. The rcw is based on that and it came from only painting on location. Black, made by subtracting light in the camera and computer, uses black to represent the darker colors because it can not reproduce them. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

I'll post the painting when I'm finished painting it, thanks for your concern.

The painting is really nice Don but as Maureen says, it would be far better if you uploaded with the Wet Canvas uploader. A lot of folk are not happy to click on links. Much easier to see your image here. By the way, I would be pretty nervous sitting almost in the middle of a road.

Hi Chammi,

I do talk about my painting spot on day 1, I'm on the bike path.
I would rather have just a link if you don't mind. It's easier for me just to put a link for each new painting. I'm on day 6 now.

All my images are png, Wetcanvas only accepts jpg.
