Hi Folks.. I just joined WC yesterday (been reading it for a couple of weeks now) and just back to painting after a 20 years. I only painted for a couple of years back then, but family and career changes took too much of my time to continue..

I finally decided it's never too late start over, so back in February, i did :)

I've only done 4 so far, and they are just practice, copies of things i've come across on the net.. trying to get the feel again,,

so here they are for your C&C

#1 - still life 8x10 on panel

#2 - Based on AJ Casson's White Pine, 12x16 panel

#3 Birches at river 8x10 panel

#4 Birches in field 8x10 panel

sorry the image quality isn't good, i took the pics with a tablet, and got some reflected light in a couple

Anyway i'm interested to hear what you think

Wow, even after such a long break you are certainly a master of light and color! I'd love to see what you can do down the road when you start really building unique compositions.

Welcome Don! I hope you find your time here well-spent!:)

You obviously know how to handle the medium - these are really good studies - I know you said they were copies, and that's fine for educational purposes (just don't want you falling foul of copyright laws )

You blending in cherry and #2 sky is excellent and you have a clear understanding of tonal values.
Looking forward to seeing your own work:)
Why not join us in our Different Strokes challenge each month? We really do have fun and never know what's coming until the host posts on the first of the month.
The thread is always near the top of the forum page - 'stuck' (or 'stickied' as WC likes to call it!:)

These are really nice paintings. I love the Casson. You would have enjoyed the February Different Strokes challenge as it was oriented to the Group of Seven and their contemporary Canadians.
