View Full Version : Nail Polish - my first mixed media

03-07-2015, 11:50 AM
The nail polish picture is painted with acrylics on a 10x8" canvas and then I added texture around it with stencils and modelling paste and also just paint. Then I started adding things like metal flowers, painted fabric flowers, buttons, resin pieces with the actual nail polish in them, a watch face, a mirror pendant, and some beads. Then I decorated a 14x11" wrapped canvas and put the 10x8 canvas board inside the back of it to frame it. It took quite a few days to put it all together.

Amazing! Reading it all I was thinking what a nice box it would make - for your nail polish!:)

Hrm very interesting...I actually might call this more of a collage painting than mixed media though.

Thank you Selahs art.

Thanks Maureen. I actually keep my nail polish in my craft room. lol

Thank you cinderblockstudios. You may be right there. Actually, when I search google for inspiration the term "altered canvas" brings up this type of thing. Hard to figure out what term to use sometimes.

Thank you Cliff.

Thanks Chia. I see we were both painting nail polish.

Thank you Cindy, Eric, drc8, David, Jim, Patrick, and Gayle. I really appreciate it.

Interesting and clever Michelle. And putting the canvas board into the back of the canvas to frame it is genius.

Michelle: WOW......wow. Love it.

Thank you Ms.Sakr, Wassie, Colin, and Derek.

Colin, I can't take full credit on that idea. I've seen people use the back of wrapped canvases before and loved the idea. This one was supposed to go in a shadow box frame but I forgot to check how much space there was before I started gluing things down. lol

Now I just have to figure out how to price this. I know how much to add for all the items, but for the painting part, which I normally price by the square inch, is this a 10x8" with a frame, or is it 14x11". It makes a big difference. Maybe I should just go somewhere in between.

Thanks cordobesa. Nail polish is so fun to use in arts and crafts, better than putting it on my nails lol.

Really amazing work. I admire the texture. When I first looked at it it looked like a diorama made out of real objects.

Michelle: this is wonderful and so skillfully painted. Super original as well.

Very interesting with so much to feast the eyes on.

I don't know where the shoeboxes for mixed media or collage start or end. I may have to start a thread to get some viewpoints rather than de-rail your thread.

Anyway that's a delight for the eyes even in a photo.

Thanks Susan and Morton.

I decided to keep calling it mixed media since it is a mixture of things. If you search collage it will bring up more two dimensional stuff, the traditional idea of a collage made of images.
