A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!
Title: Art in the Home and Garden
Project Leader: Kalibabe
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited
Description:
Art is an integral part of my life. I hang art on the walls and stand it on the floors. It is even part of the decorating. I have art on doors, art on the windows, even art in the garden.
This project is for you to either showcase what you have done artywise in your house or garden, or to embark on some kind of home/garden art of your own.
I use cards, paints, wood, allsorts to 'decorate' my house and garden.
Let's see what you have done or, what you can do.
Additional Information:
For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=548)
Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Good yikes Kali,
Should we also include photo's of things already in our homes and gardens because our entire house is homemade ? From mirrors to furniture. LOL.
BTW.... just sent you something. Send back whatever you like. :cat:

Kali...
Should have said.... send back something if you'd like. Thought this " thing " belonged with you.
Also, my step son is here for a week so the computer is on the dining room table but the scanner, etc. are in his room...our office, so can't post anything for a bit . Will see if we can hook up the camera stuff out here tomorrow but no close ups.
Cheers,
Li

I'll be posting things that are already in our home. For me it's a showcase for people to show off their homes, however arty or 'strange' they might be :D

I've only hung one piece. The rest are gathered in corners/tables etc. I guess I could photograph that.

I just signed up, Kali. Sounds like fun to share our homes and gardens. Those that have already posted have lovely exteriors and well as interiors. Probably pretty common for Artsy-Fartsy types like us, huh?
Now I'm off to scour my home and property with the digital camera. Will be back soon!

It is a plywood floor, the light part is floor paint. The designs are craft paint which has been amazingly durable and washable for about 4 or 5 years now, I even used some outdoor house paint. If it were clear coated it would last forever. The wide black line around the border was one of those great big wide magic markers and a yardstick, wears off some with mopping. I kinda like the worn look. It might smear with clear coat (marker that is), but it was easy and could be touched up. The only problem I can tell you is the light color of the main part shows dirt easy I keep throw rugs where we walk. Yes I do have a rowdy dog called "Mooch" he hasnt scratched it but was a challenge when it was wet. lol

Pam, my house is a giant still life. I don't end up putting up much of my art. I have a few things framed (not many - are any? - hung up). Most my artwork is in piles and boxes and folders.
But I have all kinds of rocks, shells, glass, old stuff, baskets, musical instruments, linens...

Thank you all for the nice comments. They do gleam in the sunlight (which we have plenty of here in Hawai'i!), and even better than gazing balls because they are rather indestructible. With three playful big dogs, this is essential for all yard art!!
And you have all inspired me to finish the other two!
And thank you all for sharing your gardens, walls, and lanais with me, it's wonderful to have a peek into your worlds. The creativity astonishes me!!!

Hi pattie
I'm not sure what red-eared sliders are...but it sounds like they are some kind of fish!
did you make those balls yourself...is there a thread here on WC as to how you make them...I love them....but then I'm very fond of mosaic work and thats what they remind me of

Thank you again for all the nice complements about the mosiac balls.
A couple of people asked how I made these balls. It was quite simple....The bowling balls came from the thrift store, and garage sales. I pay no more than 3$ for them. I stuffed the holes with newspaper and covered the balls with plaster-infused gauze from the craft store. this was to give a nice surface for the grout to adhere to. you need to rest the balls on something as you work, I used a circular biscuit cutter, a rolled up towel will work, too.
Once the gauze is dry, you can ahdere the glass beads, I used a premixed combination grout/tile adhesive, available at the hardware store. Apply generously, the beads will tend to slide. Best to work half a ball at a time, and give it time to dry, otherwise as you turn the ball the beads may pop off. Keep the beads clean, do not let this stuff dry on the beads. Once the beads are well set into the adhesive, give it time to dry, overnight is best. you can grout and wipe off the excess, and you are done.
This can also be done with tile fragments, or mosiac pieces. But I liked these beads, and sea glass, because they are so cheap and catch the light nicely....
have fun....

Hello!! New here. Thought I'd drop in and share my new wall mural I painted with acrylics in my living room. I also got the island girl at a flea market and put it on a pedestal I painted to coordinate. I bought the chair from a flea market along the Texas Border. Love to flea market. Good finds sometimes. I also made my first mosaic table top last weekend. It's a prairie chicken but people compliment me on my tiled turtle!!! Would you like to see it? Virginia

Love the bowling balls - glue infused gauze? Why? Is it easier to tile on the gause rather than on the bowling ball itself? And your view guys...WOW... Lovely home and very talented gentlemen.
