This is, with permission, from a fantastic photo taken by Mike Haworth on his trip to the Masai Mara when he documented the birth of this little impala. 5x7 in oil pastels. C+c welcome.

That is lovely Christel. Such a joy to see a newborn animal arrive in the world. I once saw a giraffe give birth. It was awe-inspiring and I cried my eyes out.

Christel -Gorgeous painting! Such a tender moment. Youve really caught the mothers "on guard" expression as her baby feeds... love it!

If you want to sign up for this Project, (which is through the WC Project System)and do more paintings of mothers & babies, or just young animals by themselves, click on the "Click here" option in the Project Instructions above - that will take you to where this Project is showing in the WC Project System.
I've entered this Project in the WC Project System, as I thought more people would see it there.

Robert - Yes, the WC Project System is not the easiest to understand!

If you go to the instructions on the Project - in my first post - you will see click here which will take you straight to the WC Project System, and there you can click on Sign on for this Project if you want to.
Your paintings come up in the Project System and also here under the Project System, when there are comments on them.

I've left the date open for completion, so this Project will run for a long time and you could just enter a painting when you complete one or there is also a section where you can enter paintings before they are completed - kind of like a WIP. I'm actually doing one of Pat's photos for the A & W Challenge, that I'm going to enter as a "painting in progress", and then I will enter it in the "Finished Paintings" section when I finish it.
There now! I've probably more or less told you which one I'm doing!
At the moment there are only 2 of us signed up: myself and Valry. I hope more sign up than that! :)

Robert - As this is a new Project you can post any painting of either mothers & babies OR just young animals etc without their mothers. But you need to sign up to post them.
If you have signed up first then just click on either "completed paintings" or "paintings in progress" whichever is relevant.

"Pussicat pussicat where have you been?"
This is a pastel I did from a photo of those desert cats I took last summer. They're small even when adult so the kitten was so small like a mice. This was the first time he was leaving the den and the mother went to take him home.

I hope I've done this right by uploading to finished images to the project page.

This is Ozala and her baby Lope when he was 2 weeks old. They are Western Lowland gorillas. The local zoo has a fantastic status as a world primate centre and excels at it's breeding programme for endangered species.

They've had babies of tapir, meekrkats, bush dogs, snow leopards, amur leopards, bonobos and elephant to name but a few. ... and I have photos of all of them... :D :smug: That's just the local zoo! I also visit the Manor House wildlife park in Wales and Yorkshire Wildlife Park!

Hi Lin - For some reason your Project Painting is not showing up in the main page of this Project on the WC Project Page?
Did you load your photo of your painting into the: "Upload Final Image" section of the Project Page? It's showing as a painting entered (in the number of paintings entered) but there's no painting showing? I'm not sure why?
Have another try and if you can't get it to work, just post your painting here on this page.

Please Note;
Skappy, and Artastic - have asked me to note: that the "Include Title etc is not working in WC Projects Page, so if you wish to add a Title etc, add them when you add you painting as a "Comment". Thanks everyone.

The gorilla is using Derwen tinted charcoal pencils and a white pastel pencil.

I've tweaked it more and resied and tried to upload it again last night. I give up !

If anyone else wants to 'save as' on the pic here and then message it to me or something. But I've no idea what to do now.

I've just created a new project to be approved and the photo on that is coming up tooo big! *sigh*

Vivien Maloney

Lin - Ive just seen your painting of a Gorilla mother & baby which you posted on page 2. Its a beautiful, tender painting and such a shame its not loading into the Project System for members to see with the others there!
You know how the Project System works and have used it before, so you must be using it correctly, so it cant be that.

Just a thought - its not loaded as a gif image instead of a jpg is it? It wouldnt load if that was the case?
If you want me to, I can save it into my files, have a look, then PM it back to you, so you can try that. It wont be until later today as Im only posting by my tablet at the moment and need my PC to save it etc.

Something else you could try - Open Paint, and have a look at properties on it there. That will tell you if youve resized it correctly etc. Then Save As (in Paint) under a different name. It will then go into your Picture Files under the new name and you could then have another try at loading it - that may just work for you.

I used Photoshop to adjust the size and saved it as a jpg. Robert has tweked it. I'll try again tomorrow. just waiting for some paint to dry before I do another coat.

I seem to have spent more time this last week organising art than I have actually doing any.

This is an old one I found from a WDE on Oct 11th.

The uploading system in projects is being a right pain and not showing up this or my other pic. It's a pain having to resize them too and then they look rubbish or don't show up at all so I'm posting the 1000px version here. I've got another to upload but need to fiddle about with that one too.

Lin - Lovely painting, beautifully rendered, but a very small size?

Did you know your painting and Mollerman's are showing in the Progress Entries instead of Finished Paintings? And of course are showing in the Progress Gallery also?
I've no idea WHY this is unless you entered them there? But all the other paintings are large enough to see, but your's is showing as a "tiny" size! All the other entries are showing their correct size, so I'm still not sure what's happening with yours?
Do you think it's something with uploading your picture files? I can see your first photo of your painting perfectly, when it hasn't been uploaded through the Project System?

Vivien Maloney

You will see it's uploaded in Finished Paintings & the Finished Paintings Gallery perfectly, so I don't think your problem is with the WC Project System but with uploading your files to it?

I am in! I have painted this family of elephants with a black Tombow marker, used a waterbrush for the washes and added a little watercolor and some details with a Pitt pen.

Kitty, he's adorable...such a tiny baby elephant among all those huge, gentle and tender loving aunts, and cousins. You've really conveyed, very dramatically the feeling of this group towards its baby!

The two pieces submitted here were done last December . Since they suit the theme I thought I could use them . The Chimp is done with Fiberglass brush on white board , A4 size and the bird Oriole is a 3D sculpt done on iPad - not the normal medium for this forum . The reference used for Chimp is a photo by Bohringer Friedrich in Wiki Common .

Venkat - The mother Chimp and her baby are superb! You've really caught the connection between the two of them.
And beautiful work on the bird and chicks in their nest!

If you wanted to add them to this Wet Canvas Project, so they are there with all the other entries (In the Finished Paintings Gallery) you need to sign up for this Project Thread.
To do that; Go to the first Page in this Project Thread and you will see a link telling you to "click here" for more information on the Project of Wildlife Mothers & Babies. All you then need to do, is to sign up for the Project. When you've done that you can then enter your finished works of art in the "Finished Paintings Gallery" so everyone who clicks on the Project can see them.

Hey, is it hump day?? LOL
There is a commercial here in the US that shows 2 camels at a zoo and everyone is looking at them and asking that?? And then the camels talk to each other saying how it's not even Wednesday. Very funny.

But back to your camels....they look so soft and serene. Very regal looking

How long does it take for recently uploaded files to show up in the reference directory? I just uploaded some raccoon photos of mothers and their kits on the deck along with some cat photos under the animals category and I imagine an administrator has to look them over to make sure it isn't porn..

Vivien Maloney

Deborah - I think it may take a day or so, depending on how busy the Moderators are who look after the RIL. Have you had a long wait for them to show up?
