I would like to request for a lesson about using watercolor pencils and other watersoluble mediums (such as pastels).

Watercolor Pencils or watersoluble pencils
Does anyone knows how to distinguish a good quality?
I'm interested in buying a 36 set of watercolor pencils from faber-castle.I already bought the 12 color yet I'm not satisfied about its briliance when using it as a pencil. Is there someone who knows other brand that is better than this?

Actually I already have two brands one from crayola- 8 colors, and other is faber-castle- 12 colors half-size. Yes, both are soluble in water but one leave pencil strokes (crayola) and the other is very soluble leaving the paper pale it's like erasing the pencil from the paper. Also I have noticed that the faber-castle tend to look pale or is it just as transparent as it should be.
I want to achieve the likeness of an airbrush painting using this medium.

I use Derwent watercolor pencils on occasion. I have some General brand too, but they're pretty lame.

What application are you using? Are you wetting the paper first or drawing first then wetting? I think it makes a difference in how the pencils react.

I find if you use them on wet paper or wet the end of the pencil then the color is much stronger. I use them this way to add red streaks when painting apples, very effective,

I have used them the way Rod has described here and also... try using them dry on dry paper, then softening with a damp brush... it eliminates the "scratchy" look too. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif Carol

Thanks guys! I really appreciate your responses to my questions. I've been taking your advices and it turned out great. I have another question. What do you think about other water soluble mediums such as oil and pastel?
Coz you know... I happen to find pastel pencils to be better than water soluble pencils. What do you think?
