I really like your colour palette and the detail in this painting. The buck is skillfully rendered and the old barn is impressive. The only nit I have is with the conifer next to the buck - it draws too much attention because of its odd scale and position. All in all though, a great piece!

I agree about the conifer. I like the rest of it. Perhaps you could paint the tree out and just have grass.

Nicely done. Though there is some competing interest between the buck, barn and house, all are fairly same level of detail and contrast.
I agree on that little bent tree, no need for it.. The other little "Christmas" trees are too perfect/manicured looking.
The far hills, grasses & fall foliage are very nice..

I enjoy your very clean colours and shapes. Your work is meticulous and almost illustrative. I must admit I would get rid of the poor little tree. Nice work.

thank you very much Coralie, Mary, tj84, Chammi, and idylbrush for your C&C. It sounds like the tree needs to go I think I can remove it pretty easily. Just to explain the trees they are cedars that grow nearly every where in this part of Ky. and are used for Christmas trees by many people they have a very pleasing smell that will last for days. Deer will sometimes rub their horns on these and will often times uproot them or brake them off.

Deer will sometimes rub their horns on these and will often times uproot them or brake them off. - exactly how I read this in the work - but have to agree with the others about it :(

All in all though, some really beautiful painting and colours in this work and such a lovely pastoral scene.
I think we're just being picky because we know how good you are! :)

Denver - I love it! I really like the little tree too - especially since it is part of the story. I like it the way it is but I guess if you wanted to bring them together - I wonder if it would work to add another little tree making them one group. What do you think?

I always enjoy your work. This one is no exception. The grass is amazing in its own right.

Wonderful! I was not particularly bothered by the tree since I see that frequently in my area. They not only rub on those young trees but they feast on the lowers branches too. You've done a beautiful job! Adding additional trees works too.

Congratulations on the successful bid on this piece! Your explanation of why the small conifer was angled that way made perfect sense and it also made sense to leave it there, given that it was a local auction. Compositionally, creating a cluster of trees works beautifully. Well done!
