ArtyHelen, I think you've done wonderful with this piece. I love the way you've defined the muscles, particularly that 6-pk torso and the arm. I can see the veins. Was this from a live model? Looks so soft, I always thought charcoal was much darker. You have such a touch!

This is great..We should now have a bunch of male figure drawings/paintings.... Terrific.

Brings up the discussion of the way males depict males Vs. The way females depict males :D

Thanx folks for your kind comments!

Not from life unfortunately, Red - just from part of a photo.

OK David and Michael, let's just say I combined photos of you both for this OK, and you can stop fighting? :D ;)

Indeed there will be more. Some in sepia, too, I hope.

Cheers!

Nice job, Helen. Gotta get youself a model, though, working from magazines makes you waste way too much time looking for the right shot, with lighting that is better for artists rather than lenses. I think it makes things look kind of sterile, you end up drawing like a camera rather than like the human eye sees, which is far richer.

In regards to PJL's comment, I do a few male nudes from time to time (working on one now). Though many have been posted in the general critique forum, its probably been at least a year and most of you weren't here back then, do you want me to repost some in this forum for discussion?

Belladonna, TeAnne - thanx! :D

Mark - wow! You replied to my thread and it feels like an honour! I was looking at your web site last night - I went thru every piece of your fine art and was absolutely bowled over by your work! (I went there after seeing the brilliant piece you posted in Critique Discussions yesterday.) You are an amazing artist, and I will be listening to all your advice very closely! (By the way, I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford such talent, but do you sell your paintings, or prints of them? There was no mention of sales at your site.)

Please do post your work here!!!!
