View Full Version : Big Red Barn

10-17-2014, 01:01 PM
When everyone was painting landmarks for Different Strokes I thought about what I would paint. Around here if you mention the big red barn by the highway everyone knows what you're talking about, so I guess it could be a landmark. And the way the side walls are leaning I don't know how much longer this barn will stay standing.

Your sky is awesome; wonderful blending. And your painting is a lovely tribute to a bygone era.

Wonderful very well done.

Beautifully done Michelle.

Even the telephone wires have a wonderful lyrical line to them. I am glad when people capture these sagging old structures because they won't be there forever.

This is you getting back to your best Michelle!
Love the sense of wide open space behind the barn, the character of the barn and all that grass in front - lovely!

Glad I did not miss this one Michelle. It is a great painting of a barn - one of the best ones I have seen on WC. Excellent detail on that wood.

Very nice job on this! I fell like I am right there. Great job on the depth perception as you feel like you can see for miles except you really can't take your eyes off the barn! Fantastic Job!!

Thank you Ruthie!

Thanks menko. I saw your post about the shed and you had some good advice there already, which basically explained what I did here. Started with a base colour and kind of streaked it with light and dark to give the impression of boards. Then added the dark and some light lines with a script liner or a very small round (I forget what I used already lol). I didn't try to recreate every board but I do like to put all the lines in. It doesn't feel complete to me if I don't. But many people say to just put in a few lines here and there. It depends on your style I guess.

Well, this one is sold. My dad said he'll buy it for my mom. Now I just have to hope she doesn't ask about it until Christmas lol.

I see Nazareth is bringing up some old posts. lol Thanks everyone for the comments.

I like telephone poles too Derek. They remind me of childhood and having the time to just sit and look at things, like telephone poles.
