View Full Version : Any way to clean pencil off acrylic paint?

I have a very thick layer of rough acrylic (paint, pumice, glass beads, matt medium…). I am doing a ton of squares, so I drew a grid pattern in pencil on top of the 1st layer of paint. Now I have colored in the appropriate squares. But this pencil grid pattern still remains, and I can't get rid of it. I tried water on a brush and rubbing it off, and I also tried soapy water on a brush to clean it off. Didn't work. Any suggestions? If I have to, I will add another opaque layer of paint to cover up the lines, but I'd rather find a way to clean up the pencil lines.

Sometimes a white vinyl eraser will work (I use the click erasers for small lines), but once the graphite gets wet, it's usually set.

Haven't, personally, come across this problem so can't suggest more than you've tried or Jan suggests.
When needing to draw on top of a painting I use chalk - brushes off easily. ....... I know, the stable door's open and the horse has bolted!!!
