'Kay, I've thought about this for a long while now, and I would love to see a REALISTC rendition of the whole Bethlehem/manger scene done by someone.
Now by realistic, I mean taking into account you've got this very young girl (some Biblical interpretations have Mary all of 14 years old) who rode a donkey for weeks while out to there pregnant, probably hadn't eaten real well for awhile, who just went through first labor with NO other women around to help, in a BARN with livestock and probably big spiders, too. Her hair would've been plastered down around her face by sweat, her facial expression wouldn't have been adoring so much as exhausted, and her position probably wouldn't be anything close to upright. Joseph, following this thought through, would have looked either bemused, or harried or both- but again, not noble. And finally, what you could see of the infant, would look like a red, naked frog- the way newborns LOOK- not like the Gerber baby with halo. If anyone wants to give this one a try, I'd surely love to see it.
