Create a fabulous beast....a hybrid or composite animal. Think Sphinx, griffin, centaur, gorgon.

You can do any or all of the following:
1. create a new fabulous beast, one not seen before in the literature or visual arts. Your own hybrid creature. What are its salient characteristics or abilities?

2. illustrate a hybrid animal from mythology, such as sphinx, gryffin, etc. Your own take on a well documented hybrid beast.

3, copy an illustration of a fabulous beast from previous art on the topic. Do a direct copy of a medieval or Renaissance or later illustration of a centaur etc.

4. Post any links to sites you think will inspire, educate, entertain us on the subject.

Any medium can be used, including digital. Perhaps it will inspire an art journal page?
:)

Medieval artists were very inspired to create these animal hybrids. As were surrealist artists such as Leonora Carrington.

Nice ones, June. Not sure I'll be able to come up with anything here - I appear not to have any kind of visual imagination whatever. If I can't see it, I can't draw it. :-)

Tyree. I love your gothic inspired angels and Viking warrior. A unicorn too!! And the racoon and rabbit are wonderful fairy tale characters...I especially love the realism of this illustration.

Is Henry your little dog? Too cute!!

I don't really know what to call my style ...colourful, imaginative, but not sure if its Fauvism or what??:D :D
