View Full Version : WIP: FB challenge!

Guessing game time! I'm not going to identify the cars depicted here, because I'm holding a guessing game challenge on my FB site, but I've spent most of the day on the drawing/transfer and just barely got started on the actual scratching before I started to get a bit punchy and had to call it quits.
This is based on photos I took at a fantastic local car show this past Friday. What an amazing time!
It's an 11X14, and the challenge will be to correctly identify both the primary car, and the one reflected on it! Drop by my FB page to participate!

That leaves me out... I'll just enjoy the progress.

In that case, Ginger, I hope that I don't fail to entertain!:wink2:
Good progress this morning, all things considered. The reflected car is definitely taking shape, and every time I look at it, I wonder just how in the #@%&! I'm going to do some of these reflections! They're so layered and multifaceted in the source photos that I have difficulty following them! Ought to be interesting, tho...

Looks great already.

Thanks, Harry! I didn't make quite the progress this morning that I wanted too, but I spent a bit of time just deciding how to proceed on certain areas that are a new challenge for me...

Very cool! I am eager to see more.

Thank you indeed, Diana! Since I had a winner on FB, I can now tell everyone that reflected in the side of the 1966 Shelby Cobra is a 1951 Chevy Fleetline. At least now I know that I drew it well enough to be identifiable!

Making decent progress now! I think it's moving toward clarity, but I must say that these multi-layered reflections I mentioned above are a real serious challenge, especially given my vision of how I want this thing to look at the end. My goals aren't 100% consistent with my references, so figuring out how to be accurate and convincing while telling my own story has me scratching my head every bit as much as the board!
Wish me luck, 'cause I'm approaching the point of no return here...:wink2:

Planning on wrapping this up today! Lots to do, but I'm pretty happy with it so far! This should be a hit at the show next month!
Going thru a LOT of FG brush these last few projects. Probably need to do another minimalist piece just to remind myself of the flexibility of this wonderful medium!

Just another quick update...gotta get back to work!

Final Friday Update! All's done but the re-inking and finishing work...
Finishing tomorrow.

08-23-2014, 05:20 AM
FINISHED! All but the varnishing, anyway! Seven pieces finished since the first of July, and I'm actually happy with all of them!
It's been so bloody humid these last couple of weeks that I now have 3 pieces awaiting varnishing. Here's hoping I can get them sprayed before my show...:crossfingers:

You're on a roll... down a very successful highway!

Great highlights and interesting point of view. Well done.
