View Full Version : fishy
Hi, I'm still new here and had been lurking until I had something to post; as I never heeded the 'don't run before you can walk'-thing it has taken like forever to finish this.. lots of mistakes and lots of learning involved. C&C welcome, thanks for looking! t

Off and running, for sure. This piece is mind-blowingly good!

Wow..what size is it?

Love the Lion Fish, they are such cool guys. You did a beautiful job.

Comments, yes. Critique, not a chance, except to say this is drop-dead-gorgeous! The shading, details, and 3D quality is superb. You really captured the light well too. Can you tell I like it?
And do you have a website or FB page? I'd love to see more of your work.

Running? You must be an athlete!

Well, I'm sure glad you posted something! You're off and running for sure! The depth and realism on this guy is fantastic. Would you mind posting some close ups when you have a chance?
Wow, I'm blown away by all your responses...
Becky, Obedec, Sue, dustynbiz, Danna, Ginger, Ann - thank you, so glad you like it :)
Danna, it's in metric German picture dimensions which should equal about 7x9.5
Sandra, thanks, you were quite explicit  - no homepage as yet. The only other scratchboard I've done til now is posted in the 'who are you' thread... but I'm working on the next, and will make sure to post
Ginger, twelve years ago I actually was! :wink2:
Ann, of course, though I feel a little embarrassed that you will get to see all those haphazard scratches of mine...
All the wonderful pieces posted in this forum have kept me motivated (though was tempted to ditch it during in the many ugly phases), and the guides and closeups helped a lot, so big thanks to all you scratchers  !

The subtle details in the closeups are fascinating. Thanks for posting. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your work and participation on this site.

It's exactly those haphazard scratches I want to see. I'm fascinated by how other artists achieve their effects. Thanks for posting the close-ups.
What did you use for color?

One of my favorite subjects to see done on scratchboard AND you did a really nice job on it!
Thank you, Diane
Thank you, Shalese
Thank you, Rodman
Ann, I used mainly Ampersand inks, though there is still a little residue of a silver watercolour I used (and tried to wash off about halfway through)

Wonderful! I love the placement of the fish on the board, great composition. What tools did you use?
Thank you Diana! I used a type of craft knife (I guess it's similar to an exacto) and an eraser to get off some of the black of the stripes before coloring.

Wow this is a great piece.

Beautiful and very special.

You might not want to show the scratches as they mean chaos to you, but to us it shows a means to an end. I always increase my monitor image size to see how others do their art. It is very helpful to see that a mishmash of lines can get you to something so beautiful!

Your lighting on this is insanely good and result in the piece looking 3D!

Fantastic work on this...I love the lighting!
