I have these 6 all started now - the Macaw is finished, the toucan is almost finished, the hummingbird has some scratching, the other 3 are only have the colors blocked in (no scratching yet). They are 5 x 7's and none are my own photos, but the mother and child is a slide from my mom. The rest are from PMP and wetcanvas references.

I think I'll be working on these for a few weeks yet.
After all this screaming color I'll be more than ready for a nice peaceful black and white!

Ambitious undertaking, but in good hands.

Thank you, Ginger. I never tried the blocking before but remembered the ISSA article by Pam Boutilier about it.
Thank you, Lynn, Sue, and Harry. Scratching away here!

Since I've been struggling with a cold and cough for several day I figured I might as well just sit around and scratch, sneeze, and cough. So here is the latest progress shot. The mother and child, the marmoset, and the jaguar are much closer to joining the ranks of the finished.
With Lori Dunn's words "know your subject" echoing around in my head since the conference, I realized last night that I didn't pay enough attention to the pattern of the jaguar's spots. I need to either fix it, if I can, or start over. I'm hoping to fix them. I seem to be saving the hummingbird for last - I feel intimidated by all those tiny iridescent feathers.
