View Full Version : 07 07 2014 remembering people journal

...yep - another journal I started a while ago, thought I'd give this one a thread of it's own rather than lumping it into my day to day one. Over the years I've taken many photos of places and people that I had every intention of sketching/painting at the time, but never got to it. I found the inspiration to make a start after making some sketchbooks from paper I've also had for ages and never used, mainly because it was large or random sheets that I stacked away in a drawer. Hope to do a couple a week and fill this 7x10 inch cartridge paper sketchbook, which is quite hefty, so fingies crossed...
Here's the fisrt few done over the last few weeks...

Lovely! Do you sketch in graphite and then add the wc wash? I'm viewing sketch 2 and trying to reverse engineer it :)

Debby, Joan, Vivian and EP, thanks :)
EP - yep, that's how I did that one, it depends on my mood what tac I take to do these people sketches in, but the variety is all part of the joy for me :D
...here's a couple more from photos I took of some very prettily dressed twins climbing trees around the parking lot at Monets garden in Giverny...

...happy days :cat:

The joy of climbing trees can be seen in these sketches. Great job.

Debby - oh yes, wish I could still swing up and scramble to the top of the trees, ah me, we do not appreciate our youth whilst we have it...

- here's another little sketch from the peolpe journal, this is my darling daughter with our dear old collie Gwennie about 15 years ago...

....we lost this sweet dog a few years ago, still miss her, even tho' we have Kiz, they were as different as chalk and cheese, Kiz is now 14 years old, we lost Gwennie at almost 18 years of age. My daughter now has a doggie of her own, a sweet spaniel, seems that we can't be without our lovely furry friends...Gwennie is the tri-colour on the left, and Kiz is classic border collie, I think the difference in their characters shows clearly in this photo taken back in 2006...

Great images and you have a real gift for catching the life in a subject, not simply copying a photo :)

Kat, these are amazing! You capture so much more than the likeness, you give the personality, feeling, gesture, motion of everyone in your journal. The homeless man moved me so much. I was homeless once but stayed in a shelter. I see homeless people here in San Francisco and feel grateful to have my pension and rented room. It can happen to anyone.

Your more prosperous people are all so very different and so fascinating! You show every walk of life here. I like your compositions and presentation too. Every painting a story! Text is elegant too, both in placement and in prose skill. Love your self portrait with the irises too!

Sweet drawing of your dog. Yes, we miss them when they are gone. But, the little furry creatures keep us happy and sane.

Lovely drawings Kat, your people look so natural and relaxed, sometimes it's hard not to make them look stiff.
