This turned out to be a lot harder than I thought. I've been working on this for a while, but can't seem to get it to where I really like it. It looks good from a distance but I don't like the look up close, it isn't smooth enough for such a soft flower. I don't really know where to go next with it, so I'm putting it aside for now. I think it looks great! Flowers are very hard to do. Most scratchboards look great from a distance, but can look weird up close. It is like a fine painting, if you get too close, you lose the vision. Like Rodman said put it away for a while. Or put it in a room where have to turn a corner to see it. Look at it with different eyes.

It doesn't have to be perfectly smooth! I think you've done an excellent job on the shapes of the petals and you've captured some nice depth of field effects.

Kendall,
I think it is beautiful just as it is. You have captured lots of dimension, depth, shadow, and light.

Got to agree with everyone, but you have to be happy. Time and space. Maybe fb in spots would smooth it out to your eye?

I like the texture you put in it - even though you were going for smooth. It gives it a way for my eyes to travel around it. Beautiful!

I think you have done a fine job on a difficult subject. It is afterall Scratch board art which means there are scratches to be seen We use those scratches to create the illusions and the illusions of depth and volumn that you've created are great. If you really want smooth soften the scratches a bit with a NBT (nail buffer thingy) or the fiber glass brush.

Thanks everyone :) I've put it away for now and might tweak it later on.

I think artists tend to be their own worst critics. Listen to the consensus. It is lovely, so lovely.
