The fun starts next Friday! I'm setting up this thread for updates and photos from the shindig in Cary, NC.

There's a new folder in Photobucket - "2014". You can also see photos from 2013 & 2012. To access, go to www.photobucket.com, the username is scratchissa and the password is issa2014
Please add photos to the 2014 folder once you have some.

Here's the thread for last year's gathering: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1319481 (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1176512)

Yea, it must be close - I had dreams last night about missing my flight, losing my car, and other 'fun' things. But I am looking forward to it - honest! And I'll bring my camera too. I have really enjoyed looking at the photos from past years.

I am sticking this thread to make it easy to find. I know everyone will have a great time.... Sniffle... Sniffle... I Will be living vicariously through all of you!

Thanks for doing this Ann. Lots of us cannnot be there this time. If the person posting the photos can tell us who is in the pic, that would be greatly appreciated.

The unofficial fun starts before Friday. John & I are going to take a nap at Ginger's house since we're taking a red-eye flight on Weds night, will drive two hours from Charlotte to Cary early in the morning and will arrive too early to check in at the hotel. Woo hooo, we know how to party! :D

And of course you can post photos here too. It's just handy to have Photobucket as a catch-all for more photos.

I have waited, and worked a year, for this... I am so excited!
I haven't picked out anything to scratch while we are all hanging out. Heck, I need to get the house ready for company now - and figure out what I'm going to wear. Aaack!

PaintDog
06-20-2014, 02:52 PM
Speaking of what to wear, what kind of weather & temps can we expect? Humidity?

Thanks for all your hard work Ginger! I know you've done SO much!

scratchmaster
06-20-2014, 07:33 PM
The weather is likely to be very humid. My phone shows 93 degrees on Wednesday, with thunderstorms. It's 73 right now and warm rain is falling.

Ooooh, that's gonna be rough on this dry-heat gal from CA
Thanks for the warning, Russ.

ggart4u
06-21-2014, 06:47 AM
Yep... like wearing a wet heating blanket when you walk outside. Thankfully, we will all have access to great air conditioning. It does take a little getting accustomed to - or at least learning to tolerate it.

Thank goodness for modern conveniences - I  A/C!

I have never been to one of these shows and have no idea what to expect. What will the reception be like?

PaintDog
06-22-2014, 10:40 PM
The receptions are great! Scratchboard artists meeting each other and talking shop. A super-friendly bunch of artists. Lots of jaw-dropping while looking at all the original scratchboard work. Bring a tissue or two to wipe the drool from the corners of your mouth.

For the non-scratchers who attend, they get a great education on how we do what we do. And there is much amazement.

scratchmaster
06-22-2014, 10:49 PM
It sounds pretty casual. Is there a program or is it more of a loose gathering of people chatting with each other?

ggart4u
06-22-2014, 11:33 PM
It's a loose gathering - except at 6:30 when the awards are given out. It will be fun to see who wins them.
I have invited the media and have promoted it heavily. Let''s hope we get a huge crowd.
As I've already seen many of the works already... it is going to be an incredible show!

I have missed two years in a row! How sad! I am sad because there are a lot of new attendees that I won't get to meet, and a lot of attendees that I have met and will miss terribly.

Thanks Russ. I know, I was really looking forward to meeting you as well. I believe you are my very first scratchboard contact. You had a forum I found. It was so exciting knowing there was someone else out there who did scratchboard!
It must have been a million years ago!

Matthew, you mean we won't get to meet you AND we won't get to see your demonstration? Not good news! Weren't you doing something on reflective and metal surfaces? Do you know if anyone is going to take your slot?
I'm sorry it's not working out for you this year.

06-23-2014, 11:47 PM
It sure was a long time ago. I don't even dare guess how long. Scratchboard has really gained a large following with a lot of talented people. It's come a long way.

I am looking forward to joining all of you. My flight doesn't arrive until Friday around 5:30p so I won't be able to make it Friday evening. I will be with you all for everything on Saturday and Sunday and I'm also very excited to see the artwork up close and personal.

See you there.

For those new to attending one of these, you're in for such a treat! I had never seen another person's scratchboard in real life until I went to the unofficial show at Rodman's in Indiana and I was blown away. I'll be home sniffling along with Cathy, Diana and Sue this year. :crying: Can't wait to see the photos and read the news. It's going to be an awesome show!

Danna, the reception lasts from 6 - 8pm on Friday. If you can make it, it's fun. If you need anything, send me an email. Looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it!
We are hanging the show today. I've already seen the art. Yummy!

Wish I had been part of this sooner so I too could have taken advantage of the show being in the East. Would be so great to meet the people behind the paintings and the learning has to just be awesome. Can't wait for the pictures and hope there will be Youtube videos again, previous years have been great. Have fun everyone.

Ginger I'm really looking forward to coming, and I've never been to NC so I'm looking forward to that also. I will probably make it to the reception, I'll just be a couple minutes late. I hadn't noticed how close the airport was.

Just got the boarding pass for tomorrow's flight and am packing now; will be leaving home, elevation 8,750 ft., temp. 73 humidity 12%, arriving Cary late, elevation 480 ft., temp around 93 with humidity in the mid-to-high 80% range the following day. Kill me now, please (kidding!) If you see a puddle with gray hair and glasses in the lobby, that would be me. Can't wait to meet you all and see some fantastic art! Scratch on!

PaintDog
06-25-2014, 04:22 PM
There will be two more puddles in the lobby next to Jonathan's. Hubby and I are coming from 86, 30% humidity in northern CA. I hope the hotel has plenty of mops.

Aside from the melt factor, I'm really looking forward to seeing "old" friends and meeting new ones! We're leaving on a red-eye tonight at about 11 pm.

Safe travels, everyone!

I just dragged into the Hampton about 30 minutes ago; 11 p.m. local time but dang! I'm still on Mountain Time, so it's really only 9:30. This is a great hotel, centrally located with a great staff. Ginger really has left no stone unturned in fine tuning all the details. She's been slaving over this Exhibition for over a year and it's about to come to fruition with a very large, big, exciting bang. Can't thank you enough, Oh Mighty Exhibition Director! Look forward to meeting you and all the other high octane type folks here. Bring it!

I had a really good time on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend the workshops today so I wasn't able to say a proper goodbye. But seriously, the artwork was fantastic. Even the people whose work is so incredibly good that I didn't think it was possible to get any better somehow managed to top their previous work and again blow my mind. The photos just don't do the art justice, you really need to see it in person.

Those of us who were there are still traveling home/decompressing. I'm sure among all of us who had cameras, we have photos of most, if not all, of the art that will eventually be shared. I must have a couple hundred photos to go through from the weekend and our birding trip today. I'll have a bunch more from a wildlife preserve that we're going to tomorrow. Long days and not a lot of time to process photos so far.

Many people, like me are simply away from their computers. If you look on Facebook, you'll see a lot of it starting to come in. I posted the two workshop days that I had in Ann's Photobucket and on FB.

I'm jealous, Russ - you can go back anytime to see the show! My husband and I went back one more time before we headed home. We had the gallery all to ourselves and it was nice to view all the great work in quiet contemplation.

Ann, I pass it on the way to work each day and I almost dropped in today. I'm curious to know how much traffic the show is getting.

For me, it was a show that overwhelmed me immediately. The first thing I saw was Andrea's lighted Mushrooms and it went on from there. So many amazing boards and such a variety of subject matter. I had no idea how dumbfounded I would be the first time I saw so many pieces of scratchboard in one place. This was my fifth time at a Scratchboard only show and i still find it amazing, overwhelming, just a sensory overload. It really was difficult to walk away the last time even though I was with some very dear friends, taking photos of the art, of each other, of each other and the art. 8P It leaves a bit of gloom hanging over me each time. Maybe more each time. Sure hope I can make it to another one.

I haven't had a chance until now but I just want to give a big THANK YOU to Ginger for the great job with this show. It looks like it was fabulous from the photos. Congrats to all the winners. Does anyone know how I can get a show catalog? Thanks
