I created an opportunity to place some art in a high-end bicycle shop
they had a lot of empty space on their walls
I had a lot of empty canvas

Proposing to the owner that I could create art for his walls,
I took a lot of phots of the products.
Using Photoshop Elements 8 the photos became "art"
he liked what he saw but wondered if I could make paintings instead...

created four, he liked 'em
hung them up Tuesday
came back with car-abstracts today, he selected another four
and wants the two bike paintings that are still drying

he gets 'free' art, I get a place to display and sell my work.

and all I did was walk in the door,
not too shabby for a guy who doesn't even own a bike
(I have a bad back and can no longer ride).

here is a WC link where I posted the snapshots
you have seen the paintings posted here before:

http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1346738
and on my Facebook page, Greg Otvos

are there any places that you could do the same?
toy stores?
bike shops?
car sales offices?
Hair salons?

and I am working on a leaded glass piece, too.

Great job getting your foot in the door.

You could probably do that at a lot of locally owned businesses. Around here (Portland OR) it's incredibly common to walk in any place and see local art on the walls. Usually places are actually looking for artists to come in and talk to them or email them and from there things start to happen. Coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants are usually where I see art the most.

Excellent in so many ways Greggo! How did you come across the bike shop to get your foot in the door?

Dave - I was waiting for the Art Gallery across the street to open. They had noon to six hours and I got there early.....

They look great Greggo, well done.

I dedicate Queen's song to you:
"Bicycle Race"

Bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle bicycle bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like

You say black I say white
You say bark I say bite
You say shark I say hey man
Jaws was never my scene
And I don't like Star Wars
You say Rolls I say Royce
You say God give me a choice
You say Lord I say Christ
I don't believe in Peter Pan
Frankenstein or Superman
All I wanna do is
Bicycle, Bicycle, Bicycle.

It's a great idea..after all your displaying something that people already have an interest in, which is your unique selling point..I'm sure you will sell some, I also like the tag idea, pretty cool!

This is awesome, the bike paintings are so vibrant and I bet really capture a niche market. Smart!
