I finished this small abstract sketch this afternoon. I was exploring some tropical colors with acrylics and colored pencils. The base layer was printed with a gelatin printmaking plate on white paper, but then I ended up painting over most of the first printed layer. I've gotten used to the art morphing into what it wants to do... it usually ends up teaching me something in the process. ;)

Composition reminds me of the Rothko format with the addition of the circles. I love the tranquility of the palette. Very nice, also has an landscape feel with the horizon line.
Did the circles get cropped in the photo or are they this way IRL.
I think you are right ...I tend to believe that the art has more control than the artist.

Thank you Dave. This little study was completed in my mixed media journal and sort of grew as I added layers--so not much thought went into the composition. I ended up cropping the circles so they went past the frame slightly--thought I'd like leaving a bit "off the edge," so to speak. ;) I sometimes play with cropping to see if the balance or lack of balance creates a new perspective or feeling. Small works on paper gives me a lot of freedom from the feeling of permanence. Helps me with the control, perfectionist thing too. :wink2:

There is a figure ,in warm colors,
sadly leaving her eggs on the beach
wriggle inside their shells
they can feel the sun
they sense the ocean calling
