View Full Version : Trying Something Out

Hi Everyone,

I have been playing around with acrylics lately after a few years of working in colored pencils, with an eye towards learning to paint abstractly. After reading the responses in the thread: Help if you have trouble with Abstracts (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1344523)I was inspired to try different things. Thank you Hazartist for asking a question I was afraid to ask.

I was especially inspired by Mel McCuddin's process. I like how he applies paint directly to the canvas to see how it develops. So I tried it out in a couple of different ways. just choosing a few colors and applying paint directly to either canvas or watercolor paper. This one is soft bodied acrylic on watercolor paper. I kind of like it but I'm wondering if I should crop it down to loose the area on the bottom right. The second Image is a cropped version.

I like the cropped version better. I also like it upside down.

Thank You.

You know, I don't think I looked at it upside down after I made my decisions when the initial layer dried. I think it may flow better upside down.

Often I will take the phot of my work and rorate it around on the computer.
it is amazing how many paintings look so different tilted.

this seems like a nice piece, I also like the cropped version better
