View Full Version : Yggdrasill - Digital

It's been far too long since I have been able to really do any painting, but the other day I was inspired by a podcast that was talking about examining things in the world that we wouldn't normally notice and to take pictures (create a visual archive of sorts). So I snapped a few shots while I was out in the cold... I am returning to my digital art "roots" with this one.

This is titled "Yggdrasill" which in Norse mythology is the tree of the world.

It is made up of several images manipulated, painted and cajoled into place for this final composition of 5400 px x 7200 px or 18x24 inches if printed.

Created with Adobe Photoshop, bamboo tablet, and original photos taken with Canon G10 Powershot.

C&C welcome, I hope you enjoy.

This is really cool. It has a eerie feel to it and it also seems figurative. Love the drama and contrast. Hits a mark with me Chris!

Dave, nikkipod, birdhs: Thanks so much for the kind words/compliments :)
Spinyone: Thank you! I am not 100% certain but I know it was a Design Matters (With Debbie Millman as the host) - just not sure which artist/designer she was interviewing but I believe it was Tina Roth Eisenberg (aka Swiss Miss)

Beautiful! I love the quality of the green areas - looks smokey yet organic.

Creepy, mysterious, and other-worldly. I almost feel as if the trees roots were staring out at me. Perhaps asking what we humans are doing to the natural world. Very original and creative.

Brill! My favourite thing I've seen in the past couple of days. Have you begun mixing your digital imagery with your oils yet?

Eraethil: I have tried doing some digital transfers (very basic stuff) with my acrylics, I am not sure how to do it with oils, and I must admit I have struggled with how to work with both mediums since I have such a history in the digital art. In this particular piece, though it can't be easily recognized, I used a photo of an in progress acrylic painting for background texture. :)
