Managed to get some time away from my 9wk old son to do a little study.
This is after Waterhouse - The Rose-Bower.

I will post more step by steps as and when I get chance.

could you describe a little about your thinking and working process as you post these in progress images. For example how you created and what you wanted to achieve with the background. How you went about blocking in the face, why you chose to concentrate on the eyes first, etc.

Actually I really like the mouthless version - it's quite striking, possibly because the attitude of the model is, for obvious reasons, unreflecting of the gravity of the situation.

As for the further-finished version, I think the detail in the background texture - especially with the smooth alpha blend - clashes a bit with the main work. Definitely interested to see more.
