http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/06-Feb-2014/42008-dave2-6-14.jpg Here is a portrait I painted today. It was a 3 hr pose from a live model, I worked for about 2 and a half hours on this piece. I feel I got a pretty good likeness.
I started on white, but since the model was so pale, I decided to change to a middle tone canvas, and then gave the background some variation on a separate layer.
All Comments and Critiques are welcome.

Lovely portrait Elaine, but I thing the rough lettering on his shirt rather spoils it.
Wonderful work. I like the overall composition and modeling of the face.

Great work Elaine.. It is nice to get a real live model to sit for you.

Thanks, Doug & Lucy. The model came decked out in a Seahawks hat and jersey - We are just 3 hours to Seattle, and haven't gotten over the Super Bowl yet. (The National Football championship is a big deal here in the US) But I agree, I might just give him a regular shirt collar. The shiny nylon Jersey gave very distinct folds which were hard to get.
Lucy, yes, it was fun. I belong to a Free model guild, which meets twice a week. I usually go to the Saturday meeting, where we pose for each other for twenty minutes at a time, which it great drawing practice, but doesn't really give you the time to get into much of a painting.
