View Full Version : Ribbon In The Sky

01-29-2014, 05:25 PM
Acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, 36"x24"

This one is very different from anything I've posted here before. I was inspired by the old Stevie Wonder song of the same title and just went with it.
It was very difficult to get an accurate photograph, so I have included a close-ups to show the detail.
Honest C&C please.

Awesome work Jim, creating a mystique and powerful presence. Iconic and yet kinetic, the colors are perfect

Like ribbon candy and a starry night sky. Such glowing colors, I love it!

Thanks Tanya and Susan. The colors are more accurate in the closeup than the overall picture. I'm snowbound today and probably tomorrow. but as soon as I can, I will take a better picture outside.

Very wunnerful,
I am fondest of jewel-tones, never been fond of softly touches.
Richness is enhanced by the washes and multi-layer-colorered textures.
well conceived composition
verry verry wunnerful

Great composition, and wonderful colour, I also like it vertical too....

My thoughts on this one........The central ribbon, has a band of yellow at the very end, I feel like this needs to be subdued very slightly, textured even, similar to the yellow band on the left of the painting... it seems to make a difference...but really its a nit pick and you may just want to leave it...really interesting and carefully thought out!

Thanks for your comments Greggo and Katie. I do like it vertical, Katie. Due to uneven lighting, the yellow area you're referring to Katie, appears brighter than it is IRL.

It's got the X-factor written all over it. Let it fly!

I liked it from the first time I saw it. There is a sparkle and vividness to the painting. Are you going to do more?

Thanks Nikki!
Thank you too Dave. Are asking if I will do a series like this?

Here is a much better photo of the painting.

This work is a ribbon of joy! It simply makes me feel good. :)

I dig this. The ribbon reminds me of a couple of strands of DNA for some reason. The ultramarine blue of the night sky works well with all of the other colors in your painting.

This work is a ribbon of joy! It simply makes me feel good. :)

For a work to make someone feel anything, I believe is a successful piece of art. But to bring joy is extra special...thanks for letting me know that Jon

Thanks 3243. When this piece was almost finished, I also thought about DNA strands. :)
