This can be where to compile a list of ultra high res scans, where you can see each brush stroke and learn something from it. I just came across this one today.

I think everything on the Google Art Project is ultra hi res..

thanks highwaykind, that is a good source. Some of the images go really high res but if the painting was physically large it usually ends up being a pretty low DPI so you can't see brush strokes on many of them. For small paintings it is an excellent source.
