View Full Version : IMAGES HERE - WDE 17/18 January

I am going a little early just because I can:lol::lol:

I will be posting 16 images and a challenge.

Please wait until all are uploaded before commenting - thank you.

You have 30 minutes to make your choice and choose your materials - you may use any medium.

For the next two hours, just go for it……then STOP!, scan or photograph your work and post it in your own new thread with your title, beginning with WDE, plus date, plus title.

When you introduce your work, please add a description of size, medium, support (paper, canvas etc) and time taken.
If your work is digital, we'd appreciate a description of whether it's freehand drawing/painting, manipulated image or done using the filters available in some programmes - you could also say which programme you've used.
All are acceptable but we'd like to know the "hows, whys and wherefores"!!:)

Use WIP for any work in progress at the 2 hour mark, and MI for multiple images if other works are to be added before the following Monday.

NB. To avoid forum flooding, please put all of your work during the weekend, for the current WDE, into a single thread: multiple threads will be merged!
From the following TUESDAY, you may open a new thread for later work.

You have the whole week to participate - until the next WDE starts (usually Friday).

After posting your contribution, please view others’ entries and comment and encourage when you can. Unless requested, please refrain from critiquing.

I visited Lady Elliot island last November and thought you may like to share
the adventure with me. It is a small island about 80 kilometers east of Bundaberg and is the southernmost point of the Great Barrier Reef. It is an eco resort and it and can only be visited by plane.

Had breakfast here before catching the flight. I was attracted by the lanterns and orange ceiling.

This is the plane that took us to the Island, you are only allowed 10k of luggage and 13 passengers plus the pilot.

This is the pilot, I was sitting behind his right shoulder and could see instructions stuck to his steering wheel on post it notes. Little bit nervous at this point as he looked about 13
Arrived safely and we were taken on a guided tour. They insist you wear shoes on the beach and in the water so no damage is done to the coral. You are invited to choose a pair in your size and use them for the duration of your stay. A lady we met had chosen a very nice pair and wore them everywhere for a few days in and out of the water, she said they were surprisingly comfortable and looked so nice. She was very surprised when another visitor chased her down and demanded her $200 shoes back. She apparently left them on the rack when she chose her reef walking pair.:lol::lol:Duh

Green sea and loggerhead turtles abound here and their egg laying activity is closely monitored and recorded. I liked this collage on one of the walls.

These are the red tailed tropic birds. Two adults and a chick. They apparently spend there whole life at sea only coming to land to breed. This family was located right outside my room and the chick was by itself for the first couple of days then one evening mum and dad turned up to feed it. They have no predators on the island and are amazingly unconcerned by all us humans.

White capped noddy - These birds were nestinhttp://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/newreply.php#g in every available space and let you get so close for photos without complaining

Parrotfish abound here. I was unable to get any photos of my own because the camera stopped cooperating and I very much doubt I could have taken anything near as good. Thank you M.alhamood who uploaded this beautiful photo into the RIL and it fit my theme beautifully.

This beautiful shot is the work of Lisilk also from the RIL, I chose it because part of the welcoming talk to visitors to the island is about cone shells and their potential danger to bare footed tourists. The warning was "if its a cone then leave it alone" apparently the inhabitants of the shell can be deadly.

I chose this one because I love it. It once again comes from the RIL and was contributed by climber man.

This lovely image is also from the RIL by Dewi and is very similar to what I saw on the reef

And echidna provided this wonderful shot also from the RIL
Another turtle provided by pattyc from the RIL

Well I hope you find something you like and have enjoyed your little mini holiday. PM me if you want high resolution, they are all in the RIL if you want to find them for yourself.
The challenge is to do a contour drawing of your chosen subject and let us see the result before you proceed with your painting.
Have fun
