I used to do this (1986) by converting an image to grey scale
taking a copy of the whole thing and inverting the colors
then copying it all back at 50% but offsetting by a few pixels up and accross.

where solid areas of opposite color mix you get mid gray. at the offset edges the colors are different so you get some darks and lights.
then you can add a tint.

this is a process to photography
not a style
not much of an art since the programming is by others.
mostly it ruins the photo.
but it could be used a bit here and there to add some spice i guess.
