I wanted to start the new year of right and get one done early. I was going to try this in oil and while I was waiting for the background to dry I decided to try something different (sound familiar). My friend Saunie does a wonderful job of these paintings, so I thought I would try one. It is not as good as hers but for my first time I am ok with this. It is painted on glass, (thus Trixie is backwards, as I forgot the painted side goes down in the frame.) I painted this mostly with liquid acrylics, put crinkled up tin foil behind it and put on mat. I have to work on this, so need some practice. I can see a red bird in my future however. 10 X 12. took me probably 3 hours, but did not keep real good track of time.

Wow, this turned out more than OK, its beautiful. You got the eyes perfectly and that tin foil sure gives it a lift. I would love to see a demonstration or read more about the technique. Does it have a name?

Not that I know of Christine. My hubby buys lots of frames for me at auctions and he brought home one and I took it to our painting class and showed it to the girls and my friend Saunie got to painting them. She won a best of show and 1St place in WC with her big one she did. She painted me two chickens for Christmas. Hers are much better than this. I have to have her show me a few things about how to do this. It was a fun thing to do. Do not know much more to tell you Kay, other than I painted it on the glass. I used the liquid acrylic, my friend does hers mostly in WC. Crinkle up the tin foil and put it behind the picture. I do not remember if the one Harry brought home was painted all over, I think it was. I did not paint all the glass, just the cat and the rug under it. Put a dark mat behind it and put in the frame. I need to learn more about putting the foil behind it and I think I could have left a little more with less paint so the foil would have shown through a little more, but for the first time, I am ok with this.

Mary excellent job. The cat is beautiful and no one would ever know it was your first time for the new process.

What a different technique. Wish I could see it in person. So, this way, you have to paint in the highlights first?
