View Full Version : Rob's December 2013 Sketches - Happy Holidays!
12-04-2013, 10:53 PM
Starting off a little late on Dec. 4th because that was my first appointment in December. I can always count on sketching when I go out for appointments. Not much today since it was bitter cold and I got there just in time and all, everything went so quick. But I got a good life sketch of trees from the parking lot waiting for the van.
Trees with Interesting Sky Holes
2 1/2" x 3 1/2"
Ballpoint on 90lb drawing paper, from life.
I have some interesting new still life objects to play with though, since I bought some good seasonal decorations today. Shiny. Fun to draw with colored pencils or try to paint in pastels or watercolor.

I think it's bitter cold everywhere lately. Great sketch of the trees.

Trees make such great subjects as everyone is different.

Catching up now, got three pages finished in the 7" square Stillman & Birn journal.
Finished this page with some Christmas ornaments sketched for texture and luminosity, still 6B graphite lead holder.
Watercolor sketch from life of the upper right corner of building across the street.
Some fallen red leaves in Prismacolor Watercolor pencils used dry, today's sketch while I was out.
Not much this month, but at least there's something!

Purr thank you both! I haven't been doing much but I'm starting to pick up again now that Solstice is over and the days lengthening. It'll get better from here on out, I know it.

Purr, thank you! So I didn't totally slob off in December.

Well, when I got back to sketching, I got back to sketching!
Holiday Ornaments Sketch
9" x 12"
Hard pastels on Bogus brown sketch paper, from life.
Not my best but not my worse. I had better success with the shiny ones than the glitter covered pink ones or the matte purple one. The matte purple one looks better in life than in the photo though, now that I look up at the wall. They look better across the room than they did in my lap.

Better photo of the Ornaments Sketch.
It's a lot closer to what it actually looks like, even the magenta glitter ones look better. The purple one is a lot truer.

Thank you! That's two days in a row, I might be getting back in the habit!

What beautiful bright colors in those ornaments!

Thank you! I'm starting to crave color - the deeper winter gets, the more I really want to paint colorful things!

That brightened a windy grey New Year's Day!

Purr thanks! It sure did. Then today I painted something completely different, the next page is all shades of brown with touches of blue.
