Our meagre notes from last couple of months (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1330788) ;)

I know we all have a busy month ahead, but when you need to relieve the stress, pop in here for a bit of chat, a cyber-cuppa and some friendly hugs and banter!

Happy December Peeps :D ... my! how this year has flown:eek:

12-01-2013, 08:05 PM
Happy December, wasn't it only yesterday we said happy January?
Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and holiday prep

12-01-2013, 10:14 PM
Time to start looking through 2013's WDE entries for the 2013 WDE Hall of Fame!:)

12-02-2013, 03:43 PM
Can someone come play with Warner, he's got me worn out today!

Charlie's Mum
12-02-2013, 04:21 PM
Would love to Helen!!

12-02-2013, 08:41 PM
Helen, will come to play and bring my 3.5yr old gd. Good for some inventive play:) Know what you mean. A couple of hours with these little ones and we've put our all into it and come away saying, I'm tired. But it's all good at the end of the day. The babies we've always wanted are here and ours to play and hope we make a bit of an impact of loving art and looking at the world with different eyes that also problem solve. Enjoy - you earned it :)

Happy December!

Brrr! It's chilly out there. I'd rather chilly (which is sometimes sunny!) than rainy for these weeks leading up to Xmas.

On another note, we need hosts for the WDE starting Jan 31, 2014!
If you collect any interesting photos over the holidays, or if you have been contemplating hosting, please sign up now!
WDE Schedule Hosting thread (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1302528&)

Hope all is well!

Wasting hours with that amenable Microsoft Office trying to make mailing labels, which I've done every year since '95, but not this year .... grrrrr ... why make software more complex when it worked perfectly well. before? I've resorted to writing
Nice Christmas images, do bring a smile:)

I've been cooking....Slip Pea Soup....French Canadian.....yesterday....Today, Im doing Crock Pot Beef Short Ribs...mmmmmm... and Shortbread cookies if I get to them, or maybe Truffles....

Ooooooh, lovely Robert!
I have some similar ones from a slightly warmer Montmartre a few years ago - love the place!:D
The artists were brave drawing/painting in the cold :)

12-11-2013, 11:00 PM
Oh Robert, what a pretty day it was for you there...Love that square, and those trees, look like spring
...they still have leaves, and look at the color, so lucky to have nicer weather....
I too have a couple photos taken right there in Montmartre, taken many years ago now. Even had a charcoal done of me sitting there. Wll have to see if I can find them. I loved that area of Paris, was there on a school trip, we were living in Germany then. Many memories...... :D . I love your photos, such an enchanting place to live :)

Bonnie...Still Soooo Cooold your way......we are having another Snow Storm today, hasn't stopped all day. but warm -4 high and going down to just -6C tonight the warmer weather is suppose to hit here by Sunday..... But the freeze is over.....Hope it hits your way soon!!! :D

12-12-2013, 08:28 AM
Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining in.
Wow, I've been freezing here and it's nowhere near the degrees you all mention..

I have a question. is it ok to publish pictures made by using WDE images as reference on other sites like deviantart, tumblr and the like?

12-12-2013, 09:47 AM
flug, you're always welcome here, happy to have you join in. Unless the wde image says "for wde only" you're free to use it.

Robert, love the photos. I may have to put Paris on my bucket list after all. I've got a couple other spots in France on the list and if I get to them perhaps we can extend the time.

Shar, made me hungry and I love your graphics, may have to steal one of them. The weather here has been cold and snow, we have been above zero but with the wind chill it's bitter. Temp this am is 14F.

Maureen, LOL, I hear you, I ended up going back to my old computer which still has the earlier version of Microsoft Office to make my labels.

Have had a bout of a bug here, fortunately between Warner's days. He decorated our tree for me this year. I'll post the photo of him at work on it when I get it downloaded.

12-12-2013, 01:41 PM
Glad you like the photos i bet artists will
Today it was still sunny but below 0 C brr gret to be home with the Cats
Helen I hope you have a good time when visiting France if you ve any question or doubt pm me I know it pretty well

Charlie's Mum
12-12-2013, 03:45 PM
Paris is our favourite city, you'd love it Helen!

Hi Anna, welcome to Weeders.:) of course show your work ... it's only rarely that hosts stipulate WDE only, the one rule as Helen said.

Mild here today too, 11F, raining now though.

12-13-2013, 03:59 AM
Good to be off from work today it is sunny but 4 below 0C brrr hopfully will be 10 above on sunday I bet it will be grey and rainy here winter is sunny and cold or mild and wet

12-13-2013, 05:18 AM
 Hi everyone, I am back in my home now after nearly 12 months travelling - but my studio is still full of unpacked boxes :crying: At least we now have better internet connection so I can keep tabs on wde.
Love all your photos Robert - we will be travelling to France in July for my daughters wedding near Chamonix so I hope to get to see some of those places.
Merry christmas to all - hope you are keeping warm - after seeing Sharm's messages I thought you might like some summer images.

A beach we visited near Exmouth West. Australia - Turquoise Bay has a coral reef just chest deep and drift snorkelling with the current is very popular here. Weather in the low 30's Celsius that is

Here is JJ giving a poor old man kangaroo a welcome drink on a hot day.

Just a question - I tried to see all postings and comment on the last wde and I can only view one page. Has WC changed settings?

EDIT - I found where to change settings on my WC - I can now see 2 pages

12-13-2013, 09:37 AM
Double Post!!!!

12-13-2013, 09:37 AM
Welcome Anna to Weeders we like more company here, glad you popped in  .

Helen....you're welcome to use the Graphics I post anytime, I borrow them too. :D and YES.....set aside some time to see Paris
if you're going to France, you just have to visit PARIS!!! and sit and have some coffee in Montmartre for sure!!!
.....I'm still looking for my pics....:D I have one very similar to Roberts in the Square !!!
I still can't get over the fact that the tress have some leaves on them.....;)

Robert....do you not normally get some snow in the winter up your way....When we lived in Northern Germany we got some snow in the winter.
Our trips to France were usually in Spring Fall or Summer.

Big Welcome back Ros!!! a whole year, wow, bet you have some stories to tell........
and I'm going to be visiting soon....(The beach did it for me). How long can I stay????:cat: :D
LOL just kidding.....super photos, that beach is so beautiful......:D That Roo looks so thirsty, great shot....

Hey, guess what temp right now is +1C yeah hasn't been on the plus side for ten days or so.....warming up!!!
I'm off to make some java.....be back later

Charlie's Mum
12-13-2013, 11:21 AM
Welcome home Ros!:D ...... love the pics, especially the kangaroo one

Mild here - around 10C - but dark and damp - yuk!

12-13-2013, 03:00 PM
Nice to see you back Ros I remember when you started the trip kep in touch if you come around here So DD is getting married in the mountains it is pretty around there

Sharm yes we have snow I use to live in Paris and there is one or two days of snow in a year and not for teen years then one week in a row Now were living 40 kms outside near the CDG airport and there is snow a few time may be 20 to 30 days a year but only a couple of inches unless a storm temp is minus 3 or 4 C than in Paris so if Paris is just on the otherside of the limit we re on the colder side sometime thwere is no snow at all, right now as predicted rain and warmer

12-13-2013, 09:33 PM
Hey Robert, have to tell you, had a couple of young ladies, here yesterday (early 20's), and I showed them your photos of Paris and told them about the area there, and got them all enthused to visit some time in the future...LOL world is so small now, nice to be able to show them what it was like yesterday in Paris etc.....:wink2:

Have to tell you all, I had a very special thing happen to me yesterday........
Mailman came with a parcel. not expected....so I opened it up and the contents
brought me to tears.........inside was a beautiful painting of Sprokit. my daughters dog that passed on last week,
done from one of my WDE refs of him, along with another painting one of Julia also from a WDE that I luv, beautiful work!!! .....
They were sent by Bonnie McBride....artastic..... was so taken with the wonderful gesture that she did, just had to tell you all
...You have to see her work in person, it is so outstanding.......

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/13-Dec-2013/32965-BonnieSprockit6x8AcrylicsNov2009.jpg http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/13-Dec-2013/32965-BonniejulianewApr_2013artastic.jpg

Pup is in Acrylic, Julia in watercolor arn't they lovely... hugs Shar

12-13-2013, 11:24 PM
So sorry to hear the sad new about Sprokit I remember a photo of him and Julia on a bridge Lovely paintigs from Bonnie

12-14-2013, 07:30 PM
Thank you Robert....I thought I posted something here about him, but I guess it was in the Florals Forum where I posted....
We lost Sprokit last week, a sudden blockage in his throat they couldn't seem to fix.
He was only 11yrs. So unexpected as he was so healthy.
It was a shock, he was a ref for many of my WDE's with Julia, or alone.
My daughter is hurting, won't talk about it. So sad, Julia, just turned 6yrs,
and is missing him, as he was her shadow, her whole life, but being so young, doesn't feel the pain like an adult (which is good)
I'm hoping, in a few weeks, I can get them to get another pup, which will help. :)
That's why I got all choked up when I recieved Bonnies package Thursday...
He was such a sweet intellegent gentle soul, and we all miss him so... gone but not forgotten... http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/14-Dec-2013/32965-XmasAngelSitting-copy3.gif

12-15-2013, 04:27 PM
Thanks, Robert. Love the Merry go Round.

Ros that beach and water look so warm and inviting. Great kangaroo shot.

Sharrm, so sorry about your dog. Might want to wait until spring to get another. My son just got a perfect black lab puppy, but said it's much more difficult to train him in the winter than his last dog which he got in the warm months. I remember his painting, and the painting of Julia was also memorable. Such a nice thoughtful gesture on Bonnie's part to send them to you now.

Was so pleased to see Wet Canvas has a Clay forum which has exactly the types of information about tools and supplies needed as I gather the necessary implements for my grand daughter, Ariel, who will be 9 early January. She's been making dioramas and pretend food for her Littlest Pet Shop pets and I have just about everything she needs to get started on better, more colorful clay. She's just about set for her whole 9th year, and the rest of the stuff I have: erasers, paints, even a tool box. What a great resource, both WC and Paula's storehouse of art supplies :) She'll be happily surprised both on Christmas and a couple of weeks after, her birthday. As usual, her 3 yr old sister will reap the benefits of seeing items emerge before her eyes....and be off an running as soon as she can.

12-15-2013, 06:33 PM
welcome Anna, this is a great place to hang out.
Welcome back Roz, what a wonderful year you have had, hope you are keeping a journal, you will love france
Robert what wonderful photos, i just wish I had more time when I was there, and do home to come back soon and spend alot more time
Sharron you are so welcome, I just knew they needed a good home.
Paul, so cool that Arial is getting into clay sculpture , and Paula's studio is a good source of inspiration, cannot believe she is 9 already

today it has warmed up to -5, and that is great for us , after 2 wks in the deep freeze, it will be cold again by week end, but not nearly as much, I can live with -20
just finished a birthday painting for my niece (took me a yr, she finally got it for her b'day, and another for my aunt, again took many months to complete, I dont seem to have the drive! must get at it again real soon
also finished a commission for chrms for a friend
had to work off a tiny photo from a photo booth taken 14 yrs ago, so alot of shadowing yikes,
this is an exchange we are making, she is a fiber artist and is weaving me a table runner in exchange

had a turkey dinner on teh wknd with friends we have not seen all summer, have not made a while turkey for years (usually only buy the thighs or legs for us) we will have leftovers for a week.
we are doing chrms with my sisters family on the 28th and staying home chrms day in jammies, and watching movies YEAH, my fav kind of Christmas,

12-16-2013, 05:38 PM
 http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/16-Dec-2013/32965-ani-xmas-email-136x185.gif Only one week left......get your cards out!!!!

Warm today +3C so far, feels like 20C after the deep freeze we had last week......

Hey Bonnie......I love turkey leftovers, better than the original meal I think sometimes LOL
Though after a couple more meals you do get tired of it . I can see where buying the pieces works
great....may have to do that sometime ;)

Still have some shopping to do...... going to go and see if dinner time will lessen the lines....:crossfingers:

Just stopped by to say ............................

12-17-2013, 01:30 PM
So sorry to hear about your dog Sharm.. :(
Those two paintings you received look amazing..

So many beautiful pictures this week and I probably won't find any time to draw any of them.. as olive harvest restarts tomorrow.. and I still have some Christmas cards to write..
I'm taking bets on whether they will arrive before Christmas or not  :D

12-17-2013, 05:31 PM
 Hi Anna......just had a big laugh at myself,,, was reading your post and along comes "olive harvest", and I almost burnt out my computer with coffee....
Just not something that is commonly in one of these posts LOL....got my attention.....Greece, wow, are you visiting or born there?.
Your english is very good.
Your last sentence about the mail with the humor, is exactly like something I would write...:D .
Luv your country...one of the places I haven't visited and always wanted to.....

You must post some photos of your Olive trees and home, would love to see them. :D

I saved some refs from the WDE this past weekend, but never got to them either....too much going on.

Yes, they are wonderful paintings I received, even better in person....Some very lovely people at WetCanvas, as you will see.

I'm on the run......will BBL (Be Back Later) http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/17-Dec-2013/32965-Santa_sled_town_merry_Xmas_anim_banner_type.gif

12-18-2013, 01:12 PM
Yes, I gather olive trees would not survive your snow.. Back in 2004? I think it snowed even a little bit in my home town (which is right by the sea and is sunny almost all year round) and a lot of trees up in the mountains broke under the weight (the snow was rather wet..) It was the first time my sister saw snow in real life and not on a TV-screen :wink2:
As for me, I was born in Greece :) and I'll try to find some photographs I had of trees (though I fear they are only saved on a server I can't access anymore.. :o ), or try to take the camera with me tomorrow.. I might find time to take some pictures :cat:

Unfortunately I don't know much about Canada.. besides which city is the capital, that you tend to speak two languages, that the trees over there have wonderful red autumn colors and
"it is very very cold" (this is a quote by a professor of mine who did his phd over there)..

12-21-2013, 09:40 AM
OMG Bonnie..... http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/21-Dec-2013/32965-LaughOMG_Funny_HeeHee.gif !!!!

Well, that put a big smile on my face...Juv it...

We're in a major snow storm since yesterday morning, not real fluffy, more like wet, a few degrees warmer and it could be rain.
But it's staying, hate to be driving in it over the passes this weekend.
Everyone's complaining, that they weren't plowing soon enough, lots of fender benders in town with our hills valleys....
Those of us who are smart are staying HOME....duh!! Temps in in -4C not cold, not warm..... suppose to stop this morn and sun coming out!! Yay!!!;)

I'm still shopping sort of lost days somehow this month....where did they go... Hey, shortest daylight day of the year today.
won't be long before spring..... you know the glass is half full right LOL :wink2:

Anna, yes our temperatures would take some time to get use to in the winter....Summer we have warm weather, up in the high 20'sC and often low 30'sC.....
The Red colors in fall come from our Maple trees mostly. you should google Canada, when you have some time and do some reading.
very large country, many cultures, many kind of enviroments, desert to Rain lorest like....Mountains and Oceans. :D
