View Full Version : WDE 29 Nov. 1. The Kids 2 Honeybee @ post 12
I finally found some time to paint something for the WDE again.. And it's only the second time I take part..
anyway.. I tried my luck with your boys :D
I wished to cartoonify them somehow and I admit I am rather happy with the result :cat:
It took me 2 hours, then I stopped and it's gouache on very cheap watercolor paper (painted on the first page of a little sketchbook I bound myself..) The size is about 17x12 cm.
Thank you for providing those wonderful photos. I hope I'll manage to paint another one of them in the next few days.
Critique and Comments are very welcome (as I still have to learn a lot  )

This is wonderful, Joel will be over the moon when he sees it. The expressions and the hair are so good.

Wonderfu wonderful job! You caught their expressions perfectly. The photo also shows the different personalities of the 3 boys and that was also transported into your work. I will show it to them when they wake up (it's 8am Sunday morning here) and I'm sure they'll be happy.
Thank you and hope to see you more often here at the WDEs!

You really caught their expressions. Well done!
I wanted to paint another picture (initially I set out to paint the hand harvesting rice, but then I liked Honeybee's picture too much..)
It's gouache on the same paper as before, the same tiny size as well.. and thanks to it being drawn in a sketchbook the area along one edge is darker.. I wish I knew how to fix that..
This took me about one and a half hours. The proportions are somehow distorted :/
Comments and Critique on what to do better next time (and maybe how to do it  ) are very welcome!
And how do I edit the topic of my first post? I can't see an edit button :(

Wow Anna, your interpretation of Honeybee is super! You caught the expression perfectly and I love how you did the design of her dress. I'm sure she'll be thrilled!

Great work on both pieces!!!

Superb level of detail and expression on that small paper! Lovely.

Both are very well done Anna, and not easy on such a small scale.
I've edited the title for your edit button is only available for an hour after posting.:)

o Anna, welcome, welcome..... I too always cartoon these boys, don't know why, but go see... maybe when they're older i'll try something serious.... you did a grand job of it, separately and as a group... nice!
I didn't feel the honeybee was off whack or anything (I forget what you said), I thought you got her as well... sometimes a photo post looks great to the eye, but just try and contort your own body into the pose and you see it's not that 'flow-y' or whatever.... no, I think you did a good job of the dress and her dramatic face... welcome... do more, do more!!! nonnykor
Thank you all! :grouphug:
And an extra thanks @ Charlie's Mum for editing the title :) (I guess I'll have to foresee if I am going to paint another one next time..)
Yes they are indeed drawn on a small piece of paper, it is due to my fear of big empty pieces of paper

welcome back to the WDE
wonderful portraits, I especially love the girl in the patterned dress
Anna welcome to the forum! Where are you living?
I think you did great with both paintings! Lots of details for such small size! And you got the characters in both paintings!
I do understand your fear of big papers - I also tend to work rather small size, mostly because I don't have much time to paint every day and a big painting it would take like forever to finish.
@oty: you are right. If that small size takes me almost 2 hours I don't want to know what a bigger size would take.
And I live on Crete. Near the southernmost city of Europe :cat:
oh!!! I love Crete! I have been for 2 weeks in 2008, and I wish I could come again soon!
