I started out saying I wanted to draw him on a taupe background, and use some black pencil and some white pencil for the highlights, but it's digital, and I can't seem to get the control with the wacom that I can get with a real pencil. Besides, there is a great sense of light in those pinkish highlights, so I said good thing it's digital, I can switch gears and dive into color!
I did it in artrage. It's a tricky pose, and I did do it mostly in one layer, I can't imagine doing this on paper- when the hand on the other side of the harp was in the wrong place, I simply moved it! I must admit, I probably worked on this more than 2 hours, but I really don't know, as I worked on it a little yesterday between work, and a little today.

The strings are on the wrong angle, but thankfully, there is a way of making perfectly straight lines, that I used.

Thanks Marianne for some great photos, there's another I'd like to try, so maybe another one tomorrow?

Lovely digi Elaine - like how you captured his face - looks like he is so pleased with his music and so he should be - I think the harp has a most wonderful sound.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/24-Nov-2013/42008-dunes_at_KittyHawk.jpg Thank you all. Although the harpist photo called to me as a better potential painting, I was also called by the dunes Kitty Hawk. because sand dunes are one of my favorite places to hang out, so I really wanted to paint that one too. Once again, it's digital painting done in artrage.

Love the WC effects on the frontal grasses in the dunes painting, Elaine!
Great color in the Harpist! I think I should have used a background color like yours in mine.

The harpist looks very good (I know what you mean about controlling the lines with a Wacom) and the dunes are beautiful.
