I wanted to share this piece I have just completed with all of you. It's 9.5x12 rendered on Pastelmat, utilizing all makes of pastels. I was inspired by my Aunts beautifully colored robe in the dim lighting of evening. I wanted to paint the subject in a loose manner indicative of a dream. I tried to incorporate soft edges and values to suggest the intimate relationship between my Aunt and her little dog. I think I mostly met the challange,(I'm never totally satisfied), I hope it reads well to you. The title is "After Midnight".

C&C's always welcomed

Marlene, it's lovely. It certainly does have a dreamy, soft quality, like looking through gauze. that green-aqua colour is opalescent!

Yep works for me - the dog's ear on her lap is adorable :)

What I love about this, and your work in general, is the apparent ease with which you describe things so loosely yet they always look just right. Fab work!

Thank you all so very much!!! It such a wonderful thing when fellow artists "get" what you're trying to convey!!!!!

Great. Love the colors and it really projects a sense of comfort, if you know what I mean. When I opened the thread I said "ahhhh". Just evokes a good response. Pam:wave:

I love it! It has a feeling of deep restfulness. I must admit that, although the background is true to the feel of evening light, the brightness of her robe seems more like artificial light (e.g., reflections from a television or a bright, white cabinet lamp). But it works for me.

Thank you Bongo! Yes the color of the robe reflectes light from an artificial source. So glad you like it!

I love it, to me it feels like she is watching TV from the glow.

Such a soft, "home-y" effect. Beautiful.
