Oh my, these are lovely! I especially like the colors in the first one with the oranges and minty greens.

Beautiful -- first one is captivating with all the shapes in the sky. It makes you look, walk away, and then have to come back.

Looks like you had some good weather to work in... Beautiful pieces!!!

Dan I especially like the gray skies in the second one. I just find your approach always so refreshing and humbling.

Dan, I apologize if you answered this before, but I am curious how you produce such gorgeous pieces from life on this large a scale. Do you use an underpainting? Do you work over more than one day (at the same time of day, so the light is similar)? Many thanks!

Best, Evelyn

When I clicked on this thread, I said "OH Wow!" These are great. My two favorites, the ocean/water and impressionist style. Pam

Would you mind sharing what surface you used? I just posted in the "talk" section asking about large pastel paintings, asking people to share what surface they use. Thanks. Pam

Thanks Jiemin,
Hi Barb some good weather up here,
Evelyn, Pam I am using matt board which I coat with gesso then the other side with gesso, pastel dust and pumice, I tone the boards with acrylic before I go out, and work on them when back in the studio as I do not have all my values in the field, usually I finish them the next day before going out again, my current philosophy is that I am communicating emotions so the next work is going to be of a different response to the subject and it is better to have yesterdays done.
Eden I am escaping from fall yard work,
Thank you Toniov,

Very bold and dynamic- your work is really active- I especially like the upper edges of clouds/blue of the first sky!
