Well, I just started oil painting so I finished this piece titled Light. It's only 14 X 18 inches. The middle is impasto What techniques should I have used to make this thing look better? Like what brushes should I have used. Should I have possibly blended the whole thing better? I plan to attempt an acrylic painting next so I kind of want to get an artist's look on what this last painting is missing.

And this is kind of how you see the color in a different light. It's not obvious, especially in the photo, but there is a hint of gold in the dark green background and in some parts of the middle petals.

i don't think this painting is missing anything.
it's pretty without being gaudy

the two photos have completely different color, so it's hard to comment on that, but i would just say sign it and paint another

I don't have a critique (sorry, but I can't see anything problematic, and as far as what could make it better, I'm afraid that's a little above my pay grade or skill level as the case may be) but I have to say

but i would just say sign it and paint another

is some of the best advice I've ever seen on this forum. I'll have to remember that.

I don't see anything wrong with your paint handling per se, but I would plan the composition better next time. Centering your subject like this is pretty much a compositional dead end, and is routinely advised against.
