For my current Open Studio, I have a set of Sri Lanka pastels. I did them because I so loved the imagery, but thought I would be unlikely to sell them to locals from my home town, after all, very few people go to Sri Lanka for holidays. I decided I didn't mind, I just put them out there for people to see.

But in walked a couple who fell on the pictures, so excited, because they had just come back from Sri Lanka! Their son got married there. They bought one, then phoned later and took two more. THREE of them! Amazing.

Here is one of the three:

Not an amazing sale though...it's a great picture, even if one hasn't actually been to Sri Lanka...so I don't feel surprised that they bought all three! :D

Gorgeous! I always think there is a person out there for every painting. All we have to do is put the person and the painting together......

I think your painting is beautiful. And it seems you obviously fulfilled a very special role for these people. Meant to be. What a wonderful lasting way to memorialize a special time in their family. Somehow the adage "paint what you love" seems to hit the mark.

Jackie, it is a beautiful painting full of light, colour and action. If the others were the same (and I am sure they were) they probably sold themselves. Just shows it is no good thinking you know what sells, just paint what you love and put it out there and wait for someone to love it.

I'm sure that couple will treasure that picture along with their memories. It's very nice!

thanks, glad you all like it. It was much admired generally. I think most people really enjoy market scenes.
