Hi all!
Haven't been on for a while and have missed all of your beautiful work
I'e been experimenting to try and find a support that suits my learning progress of loosening up.. I believe pastelmat fits my journey. Oh no, am not giving up on realism, I try to go both routes, as I had planned on when starting with pastels 2 years ago.. the lil blending I do by now works just fine on the mat, too. Still going to use the Fisher, depending on style and theme.

this is the 5th on the mat, 20x27.5"
a group project of facebook equine art .. actually it is about one horse by talented equine photographer Rachel Pendley, I took the freedom to add a few more ... that's what I "saw" when spotting the project. I might do the horse itself in a more realistic style again ;)
Here is the photo, my initial sketch and the first horse of it in the making...

thank you for viewing, C & C welcome

here are the 4 prior works on pastelmat:
and the well known apple by mrking (ref pic)

Oh how exciting! Quite a project but one you'll deal with well I'm sure!

I like that you've added the other horses. It will give a little more interest to the scene. I'll just sit back and watch.

I sure hope so, Ruth  ... but it is much easier to work on the mat than on the Fisher in regards to staying loose, at least for me

thank you both :)

one mess up or change of composition already... mixed colored herds *everyone* is painting. no statement other than beauty.. these will be all white except the reference horse

prior layout

new layout .. the five legged grey no 2

we were in the Netherlands for a few days. it rained most of the time, so I had plenty of hours to paint, no ocean as planned.. not my thing yet...

00:30 I will call it a night with this WIP shot ... left front leg of 2nd horse (onlookers view) needs to be a bit broader, I just noticed ..

Wow ... great movement and it's a treat to see all the levels of development you are using along the way... Thanks for sharing that with us.

I'm reminded of my two favorite horse painters... one pastels and one in acrylic. Barb

after a way too long painting break due to renovating my house I couldn't find back to this one, re-worked it last week, titled "puissance de la couleur"
a lot of people are thinking I intended an Asian style, but no.. this horse comes across so powerful and his orange reminds me of the colors of fall, so I wanted to express this power in combination with the flair of autumn, had to think long about it, 3rd version in sketches, but now I like it
