I bought a big set of pastels. The box is stamped "Lefranc Bourgeois", and "quentin de la tour" is written on each pastel.
Does somebody know this brand ? Do you think it is some student grade or artist grade ? Thank you.

As far as my internet research tells me, Girault pastels were renamed Quentin de La Tour pastels from 1987 to 1995. Girault pastels are one of the oldest pastel brands, made in France, and definitely artist grade!

Congratulations, you have some Girault pastels! The company changed hands again some years ago and the pastels went from being stamped Quentin de la Tour to Girault. As far as I know they are exactly the same but can't be sold as Giraults because of the name stamped on them. I have some....from a secret source......and they are just the same, most definitely artist quality!

Ive never used "de la tour" / Giraults but based on my experience with other Lefranc & Bourgeois supplies, these would be top quality.

Sweet! I love my Giraults, finally got the 25 landscape set and one dark red that wasn't in it to fill it out. They have a great texture and I'd love to get more of them. Definitely artist grade and if you got a bargain, go you! I love it when that happens!
