Since it's going to be 90 today, it seemed like a good day to draw snow. :) This is my first attempt at more of a scene--have only done portraits so far. 8x10, and again, wish I'd picked a larger size to work with, the mare's head is going to drive me insane... suggestions welcome! (I'm already going back to add some more snow to the right side of the wreath on top and to fix the bottom of the door where the wood slats get too uneven.)

hello
interesting things here .

to me , there is an issue of size/scale between the wreath and the horsehead
which stand out from the linear siding/gray .

the wreath colour stands out - my eye goes there first
and then the head because it is irregular line and a familiar object ...

a thought is to crop 20% or so off our right side ,
and some subtle hint of colour in the head might be enough to keep the sense of depth .
the texture/values in the siding might then be reconsidered ...

just a thought .

Thank you Ed... I'd moved the wreath closer to the horse than in the reference photo, and am regretting that now, as I see the size issues you're pointing out...

Here's the latest iteration, where I'm thinking of cropping it now:
