Absolutely gorgeous, the umbrella just pops and I love the wonderful cool colors in the shade!

Lush and colorful.

I just saw this on FB. It's an amazing play of color, Jackie. I could look at this all day long, and still find little gems here and there.

Jackie, this is wonderful - an amazing sense of strong light and all those gorgeous shadow colours! Hope it won't be snatched up before I have a chance to see it!

One never knows with Open Studio - sometimes things get bagged on the first day, sometimes they hang around (pardon the pun). A chum of mine recently had Open Studio, sold lots but not her favourite piece. Then, the day after she had technically closed, she had a phonecall from someone who had found her flyer, came from a long way, she opened just for him, and he bought the favourite piece! It is such an unknown quantity.
But anyway.......I am unlikely to let anyone take stuff away, I will deliver after the close of the event, so it should be here, even if it has a "red dot" on it.
Given the climate right now, I have learned to expect little. But this one does seem to have hit the right note, lots of approval on my FB page!

What lovely colors and what a strong sense of the warm light and the cool shadows. I particularly like the contrast between that bright hot umbrella and her dark cool hair and skin beneath it. Very evocative.

thanks Talley, glad you like it. It was certainly sunny and hot there! As I said on my blog today, I was lucky to be in Sri Lanka where the women have lovely dark skin and hair. IRL, this one did not have the long plait at the back, but so many did, I decided it would work well with the darkness all around the figure and with her dark skin in shadow.

Thanks Mado and Judi. It's a funny thing how sometimes, a painting just pops out unexpectedly. There is an interesting post today on Lorian Signori's blog, where she talks about how an artist is influenced by others, and how hard it is to look inside and just be influenced by oneself. I know that there are lots of different influences in my paintings - sometimes they are soft and gentle, sometimes they are colourful and vivid and have a totally different "voice". Thinking about Lorrian's words, I suspect that if I was able to look inside of myself, I would find a a whole mixed bag of me as an artist - all sorts of different me's, waiting to surface at different times.

The little bits of yellow you sprinkled around the painting are so effective! The umbrella stands out but it's not the only yellow so there is harmony. Beautiful painting, Jackie!

The light purple shadows against the strong yellow umbrella are a stroke of genius. Well done.
