Welcome to the zentangle project for August and september.

I only started trying out zentangle style last month.

Basically, it is filling in sections of a drawing with patterns. You can make up your own zentangle patterns, or you can use patterns from a style book.

You can do abstract zentangles, figurative, animals, even landscapes.

Its a relaxing and people say 'meditative' way to do some art. Rather like doodling, but people say the difference between zentangle and doodling is how you do it...

Doodling is usually done whilst absent-minded. Thus you may doodle while on the phone or watching TV and you are not really paying attention to the drawing process.

Zentangles, on the other hand, are done in a way which allows you to focus in detail on the pattern as it evolves on the page so as to become very engrossed in the art as it is made.

Here are a few youtube videos which explain and show the zentangle process.

And here are some websites

So if you have never zentanged, now is the time to try it. I think you might like it. It is addictive!!

PRACTICAL ART FOR PROJECT

1. Try out a pattern or two
2. Do an animal of your choice in zentangle style
3. Do any other subject
4. Try adding colour

Happy zentangling!!

POST YOUR ZENTANGLES IN THIS THREAD!

It took me a while to get warmed up to zentangle an animal. June, you have such elegant looking cats and the mouse is so sleek. Beautiful work.

Robin, your cats have very classic pose and feel to them.

Here's my first one.

Sharpie Ultra fine marker, Canson Biggie sketchpad, Caran D'Ache Luminance colored pencils.

I think I should have just kept this one in black and white. Watercolor is so messy.

This one is with FW acrylic ink sepia dipped with a pencil. Too lazy to get to my dip pens. Then Hero fountain pen.

Sandra - you got some great stuff here…..The purple octopus has great depth and looks like it is floating……The green billed fish is a tuff character. The mushrooms are about as cutsey as it gets! Fun stuff!!! Makes me want get out the pens and have a go!

Sandra, I agree with Robin...your drawings are fun stuff. I was interested in a still life using zentangle. Love to see you try one. Keep them rolling.

Thank you, June, Robin, Janet. I'll see if I could do a still life in a bit with at least an animal statue in it. I'm really enjoying these zentangles because I get to do them when I listen to sermons online.
