This is another of my 3 paintings in three days. It was the first time I worked this small. I added the thread near the end when I thought it needed something extra. The thread actually hangs about 2 inches below the canvas-- I thought it made better sense than stopping at the edge of the canvas. This is nearly the end of the paintings that I consider "worth a crap" :). I will probably soon post an abject failure that I HAVE to finish because its a gift. (To be honest I just want the thing OUT OF MY HOUSE!)
C and C welcome as always.

Oh, this one (as a few of mine) has some of my songs lyrics scrawled on the back as it seemed to fit. One day I'd like to make a painting for each song I have written and recorded.

Wonderfully disturbing! And I like disturbing. ;) Face works really well as do the colours. Not so happy with the frame round the face; unnecessary, I feel. As is the thread, but I do know that working in real life objects into paintings is very popular. In my mind, however, it has no purpose.
That being said, it really is stunning. Well done. :)

For the most part, I really dig this one :). Sure it's a bit disturbing but I can for sure find meaning in it. I'm thinking--oddly-- it was some older man who spoke a bit freely in Catholic Inquisition Europe, hence the 'sewn'. Maybe it was Leonardo even, lol. Then again he had some pull so he was untouchable (for the most part). Nah, I like it, Patrick.

It did take a bit for me to see the thread on the mouth but that could be because I just woke up and am drinking coffee, or it needs to be darker. I thought of black thread instantly or some other color. Yet to be honest, and if it were me, I doubt I'd change it.

I think it's great. Love the thread.

I appreciate all the input. Actually glad to hear a few "ways to improve" type things as I was afraid maybe everyone was just being nice :) Here are a few explanations on my part

The frame actually came BEFORE the face. I was going to do a completely abstract piece but saw a face and went with it. Here (excuse the photo-bombing) is a version shortly before I added the mouth. I was debating whether I wanted a mouth at all, and thought of an old opiece I did years ago where I threaded wire through the canvas to close the mouth.

I thought of black thread instantly or some other color. Yet to be honest, and if it were me, I doubt I'd change it. The bottommost close-up is the ACTUAL FINISHED color. I thought it was too light myself... looked like drool or some cover to a bad porno/horror movie. (I hope that comment doesn't get my thread closed)... but that was honestly an "Oh CRAP!" moment. After the gloss coat the drool image was cemented in my head. I was able to darken it a bit. I wish I'd had access to black thread at the time, but the thread was simply pulled from the remains of a canvas I had accidentally stepped through a few hours ago. :)

I see. That's interesting. I still would have painted over the frame once I saw the face, though.
Still, it looks good once you see it from a distance. I can see it making an impression on a white wall with lots of air round it.

I may have been thinking all gimmicky and thought Id make it a painting within a painting. I doubt I thought it was a strong enough image without a "story" (ie the string). Either way I appreciate the compliment that it would have stood alone as a face.
