Do a group of trees either in color and/ or with the sharpie. The idea is that they have to appear in a group. Allow the forms to blend together in one unit. Don't forget to subtly variegate the colors if you do it in color.

This was a small painting I started a while ago and it bugged me. After this class I realized why! The treein the foreground was too round. ( I wish I took a "before" picture) I was able to go in and make adjustments based on what Jo said. I like it much better!!!

Are you going to show us how to correct other problems besides trees?
The trees have been very helpful, but hope you will cover others areas as well. Gerimia from NC

As usual, I spot "things to fix" AFTER I photograph, upload, and post. Oh well. What's fun is doing this, thinking of it as "homework," not "a painting." Easier to loosen up and just scribble over stuff... till I run out of tooth. Then I brush some layers off and go again. (Pastel)

Unable to be in live class. Need the video now (it does not have to be pristine) Leaving town and am very disappointed to not to be able to download it today. I am packing and do not have time to watch. Agree, we need the raw videos! Very unhappy....

Problem Solving- Landscape Class #2

Jo, I tried one of your photos #IMG-0959 under the General library. Here's the no frills Sharpie and then my attempt at the painting. I started out too dark and I just continued to spiral downward it seems. I'm submitting it anyway because a lot of sweat went into it. Oh dear, now I see all kinds of problems..I'll wait to change them after class. I'll be late, so I may not see the corrections until after I watch the live streaming.

Keep hoping I will get a moment to do the actual homework but just in case life continues to intervene, I am posting in-class work. As it was supposed to be an exercise, the paper was not appropriate (no tooth, wrinkled back of another study), so it appears very soft. I can see a smiley in the sky....OOPS! and the right trees need a lot of work but hopefully the overall shapes work.
